The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 477

Cordelia suddenly remembered, that day when Sally had called her, she had casually mentioned not to be late, probably overheard by that little rascal, Callum. Otherwise, could it be such a coincidence?

Staring at Callum in the rearview mirror, Cordelia said, "You little smarty pants."

Callum chuckled, "Thanks, mom."

"Thanks for what?"

"Thanks for calling me smart."

Cordelia broke into a helpless giggle. She suddenly realized having a son was such a joy; it added so much spark to her life. She thought about her past and realized that she had been really cruel.

"Indeed, Ms. Haselwood, your son is really smart, takes after you," Sally added, as she was quite fond of the little munchkin, too.

"I'm not smart," Cordelia protested, "I'm quite the dork."

"Then I must take after my dad," Callum replied, "Isn't that right, dad?"

"Don't take after your mother. She's indeed a dork," Ronan chimed in.

Caught off guard by the father-son banter, Cordelia switched the topic, addressing the two students, "The forum will be attended by big shots from around the globe. It will be broadcasted live, so you guys can screen-record the key content to use in your research papers later."

"Sure," but apparently, Sally and Sean's minds were not there. After a few exchanges, Sally and Sean concluded one thing: Callum was indeed Cordelia's son. Ms. Haselwood was so young. When did she have him?

Passing a certain place, Cordelia kept glancing back, puzzled, wasn't there a gas station here before?

"That gas station was torn down two years ago. How long has it been since you last visited Millstone?" Ronan's deep voice echoed.

Sally and Sean were all ears: in other words, Ms. Haselwood used to visit Millstone frequently.

How did he know what Cordelia was looking at while he was driving? "Not so long, I just visited Brooklyn a while ago, but I took the bus," Cordelia replied.

"Did you see her son?"

"Yes, I did. You knew that, didn't you?" Cordelia retorted.

Afterward, Cordelia dozed off with her eyes half-closed. In her drowsy state, she could still hear the murmurings.

"Professor Evans, so you and Ms. Haselwood have that kind of relationship," Sally gestured with her fingers to symbolize a couple, "No wonder Ms. Haselwood declined Harold."

Ronan scoffed, "She'd have to be bold enough to accept him."

"We'd love to visit Ms. Haselwood's house," Sean and Sally seized the opportunity to tease.

"Alright, fine," Cordelia relented, worn down by the pestering.

Ronan's car drove off, and he received a call from Emerson on the way.

"I'm attending a financial forum this afternoon, can't pick up calls, if you need anything, contact my assistant," Emerson informed.

"You're also going to the forum?"

"Also? You too? Since when did you become a finance expert?" Emerson mocked Ronard.

"Cordelia is, and she just checked in."

"What do you mean? You want me to live stream Cordelia for you? You don't need me for that, the forum has its official live stream, you can watch that."

"Send me the link."

Emerson fell silent. Here he was, thinking Ronan was just joking.
