The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 618

Adrian looked like he was about to throw a punch, but Samantha shot him a quick glance that stopped him cold. Besides, even if he tried, he was no match for Harold.

Little Callum flopped into Harold’s arms, crying out, “Big bro!”

“There, there, buddy,” Harold soothed, patting Callum's back gently.

“Big bro, I'm so scared!” Callum burst into tears.

“It’s alright, it’s alright,” Harold reassured him, patting his back. “Big bro will take you home.”

After saying that, he settled Callum into the backseat of his car. Everyone says that children who go through a kidnapping carry a shadow in their hearts. Callum, knowing he was part of a kidnapping, had to act like nothing was wrong. It showed he was shrewd and strong, but undoubtedly, the experience had left a dark imprint on him.

At the Evans residence.

Victoria stopped by after work, now that Cordelia was back. It was the perfect opportunity to cozy up to the Evans family and Janice.

Cordelia hadn’t gone to her class reunion, opting to head straight home instead. She paced back and forth in her room, restless.

Victoria was also trying to think of a solution. She had cursed Samantha’s ancestors several times over, without sparing a thought that Samantha's lineage was also Shelley's.

Janice couldn’t stop blaming herself. “It’s my fault, all my fault. I always knew Adrian was no good, but after the kid had just been through a kidnapping, who could’ve imagined that his ordeal was the real deal?”

“Someone like Samantha should be taken out!” Victoria fumed, sitting on the couch.

Harold arrived at the house, holding the child in his arms.

Meanwhile, Victoria sat on the couch, her gaze fixed on Harold.

He was so handsome—stunningly so. She had only caught a glimpse of him once at the school gates. He might have seen her; he might not have. But seeing Harold again seemed to redefine her standards of attractiveness. He stood casually, one hand in his pocket, a picture of effortless poise.

“And you are...?” Harold didn’t recognize Victoria. They had video chatted several times, but she was always masked, hiding her crush. And a doctor wearing a mask was nothing out of the ordinary, so even though Harold had guessed she might be Victoria, he didn’t dare assume.

“This is Doctor Victoria,” Cordelia said, still immersed in her own turbulent emotions but aware that this was the first official meeting between Harold and Victoria. She tactfully avoided bringing up Victoria’s age.

“Doctor Victoria, thank you for taking care of my mom and for the gifts you sent me.” Harold extended his hand toward her.

Victoria reached out too, feeling the warmth of Harold’s hand envelop hers, sending a shiver up her spine. Their hands clasped together, and she felt almost dizzy with admiration. He had bright, sincere eyes that reflected a straightforward and genuine spirit.
