"Did your uncle quit his job in public relations to start a rumor mill?"
York shot him a sideways glance.
Caleb defended himself. "...That's what everyone is saying!"
York replied coldly, "Rumors stop when they reach someone with a brain."
"So what's your plan now that you're back?" Caleb didn't mind being called an idiot, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "There've been plenty of guys chasing Madeline these past two years. If you really want a divorce, just give us a heads-up. My distant cousin is still waiting in line."
York's eyelids twitched. "Your cousin?"
"Yeah. He met Madeline once. Back then, he thought she was single and was absolutely blown away. He only has two goals in life: waiting for you to divorce so he can marry an angel, and excavating an ancient pharaoh's tomb to see what's inside."
Caleb's cousin was a famous archaeology nerd in their social circle. A rich heir who cared nothing for beautiful women or sports cars, spending his days dreaming of digging up ancient ruins.
Yet this incredibly rigid man had fallen in love at first sight the moment he saw Madeline, totally unfazed by the fact that she was married.
York toyed with the lighter in his hand, his gaze locking onto Madeline.
The autumn air was crisp, and the sunlight poured into the open courtyard, casting a golden halo over Madeline's white dress.
The girls chattering around her were all young and stunning, but she was the only one he saw. Even after two years, his eyes naturally gravitated straight to her.
She was the most beautiful, the most captivating.
York pulled his gaze away and delivered a deadpan response. "Then let him keep digging up pharaohs."
That wish had a much higher chance of coming true.
Caleb wasn't surprised. York looked polite and refined on the surface, but deep down, he was wild and terrifyingly possessive. When he first set his sights on Madeline years ago, he used every trick in the book to tie her to him. It looked like they were falling apart over these last two years, but knowing York's temper, he wouldn't let her walk away that easily.
"Then you're screwed," Caleb sighed. "Madeline's temper is incredibly stubborn. I don't know exactly how you two blew up two years ago, but trying to patch things up now won't be easy. Also, you probably don't know this, but Hunter Holt is back."
At the mention of Hunter's name, York's brow shot up. "Oh?"
