’It’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m fine.’
Gu Jiaojiao muttered reassurances to herself as she walked toward the source of the sound.
As she drew closer, a woman huddled and crying beside a large rock came into view.
Li Hongmei had started out crying on the rock, but the winter wind was too cold. After a while, her face began to feel numb, so she had moved to a spot sheltered from the wind to continue weeping.
She was truly heartbroken.
Ever since learning Yun Hao’s true identity, she had fantasized about using him to escape this damn Qingshan Team.
Yun Hao had always been her ticket out.
But now, Yun Hao was going to marry Xu Wenwan. That meant she would never be able to use him to leave the Qingshan Team. It was a prospect more horrifying than a shattered dream.
The more Li Hongmei dwelled on it, the more distraught she became. A wave of grief washed over her, and she couldn’t stop crying.
Gu Jiaojiao spotted the corner of a piece of clothing by the rock and instantly breathed a sigh of relief.
’Oh, it’s a person.’
’That’s what I thought,’ she reasoned. ’It’s only a little past five, so it’s still daylight. There’s no way a ghost or monster would dare to come out right now.’
As Gu Jiaojiao approached, she felt the clothes looked increasingly familiar.
When she was less than a meter away, she finally recognized who it was.
The moment Gu Jiaojiao recognized her, she turned to leave without a second thought.
’I shouldn’t have gotten involved.’
Hearing the sound, Li Hongmei looked up and saw Gu Jiaojiao. She had been about to taunt her—after all, Gu Jiaojiao used to like Yun Hao.
But Gu Jiaojiao completely ignored her and turned to leave. Li Hongmei couldn’t hold back any longer.
The banquet tables used in the countryside now were different from the ones in her past life. Rural families were typically large; you’d have the two elders, then their three or four sons, and then those sons’ children. One family could have as many as seven or eight "little turnip heads," and when you added in the daughters-in-law and daughters, all eating together, a small table was out of the question.
So even though it was only eight tables, a rough count would put the number of guests at sixty or seventy people, not including children.
At the time, Village Chief Xu had been basking in the glory of it all for quite a while in the village.
In other words, when Yun Hao and Xu Wenwan got married, there wasn’t a single person in the whole Qingshan Team who didn’t know about it.
’Then how come, in reality, nobody seems to know about it?’
This was what surprised Gu Jiaojiao.
’Why are even the male and female leads acting differently from the novel?!’
Seeing Gu Jiaojiao’s shocked expression, Li Hongmei felt a small measure of comfort.
"You must be devastated, right?"
