The Disguised Billionaire She Rejected novel Chapter 181

Chapter 181

Marcus followed Jessica out of the hotel entrance without saying another word. She opened the passenger door of her car before looking back at him.

“Get in,” she said. “It’s easier if we talk somewhere private.”

Marcus frowned slightly as he took his seat.

“What’s so urgent that it couldn’t wait until tomorrow?” he asked once the car started moving.

Jessica kept her eyes on the road.

“I’ll explain when we get there.”

Marcus leaned back against the seat and sighed. Although he felt the whole situation was unnecessary, he had already agreed to come. Since it wouldn’t take long, he decided to hear her out before leaving.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hotel where Jessica was staying.

The two of them entered the lobby, rode the elevator in silence, and eventually stopped outside her room. Jessica unlocked the door and gestured for Marcus to come inside.

The room was neat and surprisingly quiet.

Marcus remained standing near the sofa while Jessica set her handbag aside.

“I have something I want to show you,” she said.

Without waiting for a reply, she walked into the bedroom.

Marcus looked around the room, puzzled by the whole situation.

“What exactly is she doing?” he muttered to himself.

A minute later, Jessica returned carrying a thick folder. In her other hand was a bottle of wine and two glasses. She placed everything neatly on the coffee table before pouring wine into one of the glasses.

She slid the folder closer to Marcus.

“It’s related to something I need your help on,” she said. “Take a look.”

Marcus reached for the folder. “I’ll read it first.”

Jessica smiled faintly and placed a hand over the file.

“Give me a second. The pages are out of order. Let me arrange them.”

She opened the folder and began sorting through the documents one by one. Marcus watched quietly for a while before glancing toward the glass on the table.

The room felt unusually warm.

Jessica had lowered the air conditioning before he arrived, and with the windows closed, the air had gradually become stuffy. Marcus loosened the collar of his shirt without thinking much of it.

“Are you done yet?” he asked.

“Almost,” Jessica replied without looking up. “Just another minute.”

Several more minutes passed. Marcus rubbed the back of his neck. He started getting thirsty. His eyes drifted toward the glass of wine sitting on the table. After hesitating briefly, he picked it up and took a small sip to moisten his throat.

Jessica noticed the movement from the corner of her eye. A faint smile appeared on her lips before she quickly hid it and continued arranging the papers.

Finally, she closed the folder and placed it back on the table.

“There,” she said. “I’m finished.”
