Just then, there was a knock at the door. Jonah said, "Come in."

The door to his office opened. Jeremy Leclair, Jonah's assistant, walked in. "Mr. Pilsner, we contacted the world's top plastic surgeon, but he said your face likely can't be restored.

"The burn area is too extensive, and it's been three years. He's not confident enough to take the case, so he declined."

It was the same story again.

Jonah wasn't surprised. He had already consulted many doctors, and every time they saw his ruined face, they shook their heads.

He would never go back to how he looked before.

Hailey used to like him so much. Now, looking at his face, she probably didn't anymore. That had to be why she didn't want to be with him.

He could feel her resistance and refusal on the bed today. He acted on impulse.

"You can go," he told Jeremy.

"Yes, Mr. Pilsner."

Jeremy then left.

Jonah stood alone in his office, staring at the chat window with Hailey. She still hadn't replied.

He curled his lips into a bitter smile, then still typed a message to her. "Goodnight."

Hailey rested for two days. Today, Aileen was coming home, so she got up early and started preparing all of Aileen's favourite things.

Just then, Miranda rushed in. "Hailey, something happened!"

Hailey was startled. "Mom, what happened?"

"Hailey, that worker who was causing trouble had already started to waver. He was about to take the money and sign the settlement. Once the settlement's signed, it's over. But just now, your dad called. He said the worker suddenly vanished. No one can find him."

What?

Hailey felt her heart sink. "What do you mean vanished? If something happens to that worker, this whole thing will explode!"

"Your dad said the same. That worker is crucial. But now, he's just gone!"

"Haha! Hailey. This is your last chance. If you give in, there's still a way out!"

Then, he hung up.

Hailey felt her hands and feet turn cold. She hadn't expected Ewan to be this far gone.

What now? If that worker died in Ewan's hands, everything would be over.

She had to find that worker.

Hailey looked at Miranda. "Mom, step up the search for that worker. We can't let anything happen to him."

"Hailey, we've searched everywhere. There's still no trace."

Just then, one person popped into Hailey's mind. Right now, he was the only one she could think of.

"Mom, I'm heading out!"
