**TITLE: Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane Crest 194**
**Chapter 194**
**Gemma’s POV**
Cassian’s penetrating dark eyes fixate on me, as if he’s peeling back the layers of my very soul, scrutinizing every hidden thought and emotion. He occupies the bench with an air of authority, as though he were a king surveying his domain, and I, a mere subject in his realm.
His posture is deceptively relaxed, shoulders at ease, fingers intertwined like a web, yet there’s a stark reminder of violence— a small cut at the corner of his lip, still oozing crimson.
“I still haven’t given my consent to withdraw the complaint—”
“Cassian…” My voice is a whisper, a plea wrapped in uncertainty.
“Come with me, and I’ll take it back right now. But you will never see Jace again, otherwise…”
He trails off, leaving the rest to linger ominously in the air, and my mind races to fill in the gaps. ‘Otherwise, I will ensure he experiences no peace for the rest of his days.’
The notion twists my stomach into knots, a familiar dread creeping in. Zina, ever the fierce protector, steps forward, indignation radiating from her.
“Excuse me, how can you—”
Before she can finish, I reach out, shaking my head in a silent but firm command for her to stop. My eyes remain locked onto Cassian, unwilling to break the connection.
He observes every flicker of emotion that dances across my face, like a predator poised to pounce on its unsuspecting prey.
I take a deep breath, straightening my shoulders despite the tremors in my hands that betray my composure.
“If I agree to that… You won’t retaliate, is that clear? You’ll let him go, and leave him alone for good. Not a single finger laid on him, no threats, and no burying him in legal nonsense or blacklisting him. You swear it right now.”
Cassian’s gaze flickers briefly to Jace, who stands beside me, then back to me, his expression unreadable. “As long as you do what I said.”
Jace stiffens, tension radiating from him as he whispers urgently, “Gemma, no. I’m not afraid of him. I told you—”
Frustration bubbles within me, not because he’s wrong, but because he fails to grasp the myriad ways Cassian could destroy him without ever laying a hand on him.
I inhale slowly, my heart heavy. “Fine, I agree.”
Jace’s shoulders slump as if I’ve thrust a dagger into his chest, the weight of my decision crashing down on us both.
“Now let him go.”
In a matter of seconds, Cassian signs the release form, his movements precise and calculated. Just as he reaches for my hand, Reyna interjects, her presence an unwelcome distraction.
She narrows her eyes, disbelief and disdain etched across her features. “Unbelievable, Gemma. Do you really think that by playing the martyr, we’ll all forget that this is your fault?”
Her words sting, and she clings to Cassian’s sleeve as if she were the injured party here.
“How shameless can you be? You dragged your boyfriend into a fight, and now you’re pretending to make a huge sacrifice in front of Cassian—”
I turn, fixing her with a cold glare, and the absurdity of it all hits me. Cassian doesn’t even acknowledge her, his focus unwaveringly on me.
