**TITLE: Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane Crest 255**

**Chapter 255**

**Reyna’s POV**

Here I stand, poised at the entrance of the conference room, a bright smile affixed to my face as if it were a mask. But beneath this facade, a storm brews, rage bubbling just below the surface.

Cassian has stormed out of the meeting, leaving the rest of us in a lurch. If I cannot halt his retreat, then I will ensure that no one forgets this glaring oversight of his.

Clearing my throat, I brace myself to articulate the inexplicable, attempting to steady my quavering voice.

“I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, everyone,” I begin, forcing warmth into my tone. “Mr. Blackwell has been called away on an urgent matter that was entirely unforeseen. We will reconvene this meeting at a later date. I trust you all understand…”

As I finish, the attendees begin to shuffle out of the conference room with an air of discontent. But the moment my words hang in the air, the grumbling starts to ripple through the room.

“No matter how busy he is, he can’t just ditch us like this.”

“Do we all not work our fingers to the bone for this company?”

“Does he even care anymore?”

I bow my head slightly, feigning sincerity, though my insides churn with indignation.

“Thank you for the effort you all put into this company. We will reorganize and ensure your time hasn’t been wasted,” I add, hoping to quell the rising tide of discontent.

Gradually, the room empties. As the last executive departs, a heavy silence blankets the space, and that’s when Rhett can no longer contain himself.

“Where the hell did Cassian go? Doesn’t he realize how messed up this is? Leaving you to clean up his mess like some secretary! Has he even considered how that makes you and the rest of us feel?”

His voice is a passionate roar, and my heart skips a beat at his fervor. Why can’t Cassian show even a fraction of this protective spirit?

But just as Rhett’s anger fills the void, Liam interjects, wielding his own defense like a sword. “Cassian had an emergency. Can’t you understand that?”

His tone is laced with irritation, “You’re supposed to be his partner, Rhett. Even if the employees or clients are disgruntled, it’s your responsibility to address their concerns and make them feel valued. But instead, all you ever do is throw tantrums as if he owes you something.”

Rhett pivots to face him, fury igniting in his eyes. “And you! All you ever do is defend him, no matter how wrong he is. He abandoned us in front of shareholders. Abandoned her—” he points at me, “—and you still call that leadership?”

“Liam,” I interject swiftly, stepping between the two, my hand raised in a gesture of peace.

Yet, Liam stands firm, undeterred. “If you’re not happy about it, then leave! The company can manage without you. We’ll buy back your shares. We’re supposed to be brothers, and I don’t see that happening when you’re only good for screaming at the slightest inconvenience.”

Rhett’s fists clench at his sides, his body vibrating with barely contained rage. “Fine, then! I’m out of here! Anyone who stays is a damn coward!”

Desperation wells within me as I reach for his arm. “Rhett, no, please! We are all friends here. Don’t let one disagreement ruin everything.”

But he jerks away from my touch, his eyes aflame with conviction.

“Why do you keep sticking with Blackwell Industries, Reyna? Is it because we joined it together straight out of college or just because of Cassian? He already fired you once, don’t you remember? Even now, you’re working at a much lower level than you deserve.”

His words cut deep, a reminder of my past humiliation, and I flinch.

“If we left, we could start again, just the two of us. You’re not out of options, Reyna! So why should you endure this humiliation?”

For a moment, his words rattle me. Just the two of us. It would be so easy. But no! My gaze flits to the empty chair where Cassian should be seated.

It has always been him.

Liam’s voice slices through the tension, “So that’s it, Rhett? You never cared about us, did you? You think you’re too good for us?”
