Chapter 263
Cassian’s POV
Every muscle in my face is threatening to crack from the restraint. Reyna’s voice is trembling, but her words are deliberate.

Out of all the lies and all the mess, she only chooses to confess to one thing, selling that damn video of Gemma.
The one thing that matters most.
My gaze sharpens on her, the weight of it making her shift uncomfortably in her seat.
“Yes, I acted on impulse,” she says, her tone half–defensive, half–pleading. “But you don’t understand, Cassian. Seeing Gemma out with different men… I made me feel sorry for you. I didn’t know why she degraded herself like that. I thought if I show her that she isn’t as sly in hiding her affairs, she will start
to behave.”
I anticipate Liam’s scoff long before it arrives.
“What a pathetic excuse!”
But Reyna doesn’t falter. She straightens, wiping her tears, and adds quickly, “Besides… it was Gemma who asked me to do it.”

That gets my attention.
She grabs her phone, fumbling through her messages, then shoves the screen toward me with a shaky hand.
A single message from Gemma is highlighted, glaring back at
me:
[If you have the confidence, make Cassian divorce me! It’ll be a favor for me, and you’ll get your heartiest wish!]
My eyes linger longer than I mean to, tracing every cruel letter. Then I look away, slowly, carefully, because if I keep staring, I might lose control.
So she wanted this all along… even going as far as pushing Reyna to provoke me.
“Cassian…!” Reyna whispers, voice cracking, “Gemma doesn’t love you, she never has. I just didn’t want to see you hurt and humiliated in the end.”
Tears streak down her cheeks. She wipes them hurriedly. “You can hate me, hold me accountable, but please know, I’ve always seen you as my best friend.”
Liam sneers, “Best friend? You’re unbelievable. If you really saw him as a friend, you would have spoken to him privately and not dragged him into this filth. And let’s not even start on Rhett. He’s liked you for years, everyone knows it. And you’re not

uninterested, are you? But why do you always run to Cassian first whenever you’re in trouble? Why not him?”
Reyna flinches, unable to form a rebuttal. She stammers, “I… I just wanted to focus on work. That’s all.”
Her eyes dart back to me, wide and wet. “Cassian, can you forgive me? I know I was wrong. I thought you didn’t care about Gemma, so I acted foolishly. I swear, it won’t happen again. Please… just this once.”
It’s rare to see someone as proud as Reyna beg.
“Please,” she whispers again.
When silence meets her, she tries another card. “Do you know why I sold those photos? When you saw me abroad, I looked fine, dolled up and smiling. Right? But the truth is my mother had racked up debts. She owed so much, Cassian. I sold those photos to pay it off.”
My eyes narrow. “You expect me to believe that?”
“It’s the truth!” she cries. “If you don’t believe me, check yourself. My mom got into gambling overseas and dragged me down with her. I had no choice. When you spent all that money buying back your wedding rings with Gemma, I… I handed it all over to cover my mother’s debts. If I hadn’t pretended to be wealthy all these years, I wouldn’t have been able to keep paying it back. I’ve just finished repaying all the debts and now, I can

finally breathe.”

Rhett looks stunned. “Reyna… why didn’t you ever say anything? I thought you were making money hand over fist abroad.”
She lowers her head, her tears dripping onto her lap. “Because it was my burden! I didn’t want Cassian to look down on me, I didn’t want anyone to.”
She raises her eyelashes delicately, looking up again as her gaze locks onto mine. “I’m sorry, Cassian. I’ve let you down. Can’t you forgive me this time, please?”
Her panic grows with every second of my silence. Finally, she blurts, “Even if… even if it’s because of that time I saved your life. Even if only for that reason… can you forgive me this once?”
Liam stiffens, and Rhett looks down, awkward, silent. They both know what she’s talking about, the one debt I’ve never been able
to erase.
The one thing in my life I still owe her for… Damn her. She knows exactly where to strike.
Images flash unbidden: her limp body that night, the wound, the panic in my chest. And then more recently, her limping when that leg got injured in Nassau Islands, which might not have healed properly till now.

“I owe you for what happened abroad,” I say flatly. “I won’t hold it against you this time.”
Her head snaps up, eyes wide, relief flooding her face before she even fully processes my words.
“You… you forgive me? Really!”
