The Don Tore Up Our Divorce (Gemma and Cassian) novel Chapter 305

Chapter 305-2

Cassian’s POV

I finish the meeting and find Adam hovering at my door, accompanied by his anxiety.

Is something wrong?

His words tumble out. Mr. Blackwell, one of the interviewees

today insists on seeing you.

For a moment, I sift through the day’s schedule. The interns?

Why does she need to see me?

I am not their interviewer. Adam hesitates, She claimsshe’s your cousin.

My expression hardens instantly, a cold mask settling into place. I have no cousin. Instruct everyone to follow the normal procedures. Anyone found using back channels will be dismissed immediately if I find out.

Adam mutters under his breath, but I catch the words. I knew she was just bossing around earlier!

Kitty’s POV

The other interns huddle together, their whispers a nervous hum, but I just lean against the wall. Let them stare!

My abilities speak for themselves, but let’s be real, it’s not just about what you know, it’s about who you know.

I announce to no one in particular, and a girl with mousy brown hair shoots me a look of pure venom.

I just give her a sweet, condescending smile. She’s already lost, she just doesn’t know it yet.

When the interviewer calls my name first, I stride into the room like I own it. I don’t even wait for her to finish saying my name.

I sit, cross my legs, and get ready to dazzle them. But before I can launch into my prepared speech, I drop the bomb.

I’d like to see Cassian Blackwell, please,I say, my voice dripping with casual familiarity. He’s expecting me.

Excuse me? Mr. Blackwell is not involved in the intern selection

process.

Well, he’ll want to be involved in mine. We’re family.

A flicker of doubt and annoyance crosses her face. She excuses herself and makes a call from the corner of the room. I can’t hear the words, but her hushed, respectful tone tells me she is talking to someone important, probably his secretary.

It’s all going according to plan.

unavailable right now. The interview will proceed as scheduled.

The air leaves my lungs in a quiet rush. Are you kidding me?The words slip out before I can stop them. How can he not see

me?

She gives me a flat, professional smile. If you have any doubts, you can contact Mr. Blackwell directly.

The trap snaps shut. If I had his number, would I be sitting here in this cheap chair?

I force a brittle laugh, Fine, let’s proceed with the interview then.I resume my arrogant posture, chin held high. So what if he’s busy? A regular interview is just a formality, I am a shooin.

But when I walk out and see the endless line of candidatesthirty? forty? All vying for just two spots, a cold trickle of doubt seeps into my gut. The mousyhaired girl smirks at me.

I need a lifeline, now. I duck into a hallway alcove, my heart hammering against my ribs, and fumble for my phone.

Mom!

I whisper the second the line connects. He didn’t come. They said he’s unavailable.

My mother’s voice is a sharp, anxious buzz in my ear. What do you mean, unavailable? Did you tell them who you are?

Of course I did! It didn’t work. There are so many people here,

Lucky Drow

Justjust find a way to see him Kitty, Be resourceful. You’re Gemma’s cousin, for heaven’s sake. Make that count.

The call ends, and the weight of her expectation presses down on me. The waiting area feels like a cage, the other girlsdisdainful glances like little needles. I can’t breathe here. I need to move, I need to be proactive.

I slip away from the crowd and head for the bank of elevators. I press the button for the highest floor.

The executive floor, that’s where the real power is. The doors slide open onto a different world; all hushed carpets, polished wood, and the faint, expensive scent of cleaning products.

It’s quiet, terrifyingly so. And then I hear a voice, sharp and clear, cutting through the silence like a blade.

I follow the sound to an office with a wall of glass, and I spot Cassian Blackwell.

His back is to me, his posture rigid as he is busy scolding down a cowering man in a suit. His reflection is caught in the glass- sharp, aristocratic features, a jaw tight with anger.

This is it, this is my moment.

I wait until the chastised employee scurries out, and before the door can fully close, I seize my chance. I step forward, my voice ringing out, too loud in the sacred quiet of the executive floor.

He turns, his expression showing his puzzlement. It’s now or never. I don’t wait for an invitation; I walk right into his office, the plush carpet swallowing the sound of my footsteps.

I’m Kitty!I say, pouring every ounce of charm I possess into my smile. Gemma’s cousin, remember!
