**Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane Crest**
**Chapter 32**
**Gemma**
“What on earth?! Damn it, Cassian! I should have anticipated you would pull something like this!”
Frustration bubbles within me as I slam the papers back onto the table, the sound echoing in the tense silence of the room.
In an instant, Cassian is on his feet, darting around the coffee table with a speed that leaves me momentarily breathless. He seizes my wrist, his grip firm but not painful, and confronts me with a fierce intensity. “And I should have known you wouldn’t waste a moment before finding another man. Who is he, Gemma? Which family does he belong to?”
I blink at him, confusion mingling with disbelief. “What are you talking about?”
“I saw you,” he insists, his voice low and urgent, his body so close that I can feel the warmth radiating from him. “Just half an hour ago. You were out with some other guy.”
My mind spins as the realization dawns on me. He must have caught a glimpse of me walking to dinner with Zina and Jace. I shake my head, my instinct to explain bubbling to the surface.
But then, a wave of anger surges through me, and I yank my wrist from his grasp, even though the motion sends a sharp sting of pain through my skin.
“You’ve got no right to talk!” I snap back, my voice laced with fury. “We’ve been married for three years, yet no one knows about it. Why is that, Cassian? Is it so that when you’re out in public with Reyna, no one will suspect you’re cheating on me?”
I grind my teeth, the words spilling out like poison. “Is it because when your grandfather passes away, you’ll send me packing and marry Reyna instead?”
“I am not sleeping with Reyna!” he bellows, his voice booming through the room.
I stagger backward, my heart racing at his explosive reaction. The sheer force of his anger is overwhelming, and every instinct in my body screams for me to retreat, to find a safe corner to hide. But I stand my ground, even as uncertainty gnaws at me. Just days ago, he had practically admitted to something more than just friendship with Reyna.
But… could I be mistaken about his involvement with her?
If I am wrong, does it even matter?
No. It doesn’t. It can’t. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about whether he’s with Reyna right now.
It’s about the fact that he trusts her more than he trusts me.
And deep down, I know he doesn’t love me.
I inhale shakily, my chest tightening with the weight of my resolve. “I will not remain married to you for another year. Not like this. Not even for Seaside Manor.”
The shock that crosses Cassian’s face is palpable, and he instinctively steps back, sinking onto the couch as if the very weight of my words has physically struck him. He moves slowly, almost cautiously, as if he’s suddenly aware of how intimidating he can be and wants to avoid frightening me further with any abrupt movements.
