The Don Tore Up Our Divorce (Gemma and Cassian) novel Chapter 43

**TITLE: Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane Crest**

**Chapter 43**

**Gemma**

“Gemma,” he breathes, his voice barely above a whisper, just a heartbeat before the door swings open.

His gaze is intense, almost desperate, as if he yearns for me with every fiber of his being. It’s as though the very air between us crackles with unspoken desire and longing, and the thought of being interrupted seems to devastate him. He should be the one to take control, yet in this moment, he feels utterly vulnerable, as if he cannot bear to be apart from me, if only for a moment.

I’ve always been the one to lose myself in him, to surrender completely to the chaos he brings into my life. Even during that one night we shared, there was a precision to his movements, a ruthless efficiency that left me both exhilarated and breathless.

But now?

Now he appears as if the world might crumble around us if he doesn’t keep his hands on me.

And then, the door swings wide, revealing Reyna.

She stands there, taking in the scene before her. For a fleeting moment, her eyes blaze with a fury that could ignite the very air between us. The way she looks at me, it’s as if she could set me ablaze with nothing more than her gaze, and I feel the weight of my disheveled clothes and tangled hair pressing down on me, a clear testament to what Cassian and I have been doing.

But just as quickly as the rage ignites, it fades, replaced by a delicate sadness that tugs at my heart. Her large, violet doe eyes shimmer with unshed tears, and I can see the pain etched across her features as she turns her gaze to Cassian. “Cassian? What’s going on?” she whispers, her voice trembling with uncertainty.

An unexpected pang of guilt slices through me.

I am Cassian’s wife, yet in this moment, it feels as though I am the one who has betrayed her trust. I can’t help but wonder if she sees me as the other woman, the one who has stolen him away.

I dart a glance at Cassian, but his expression is an impenetrable mask. Despite the chaos of our earlier moments, he appears utterly composed, as if he’s just stepped out of a perfectly tailored suit commercial.

“I… I suppose if I’m interrupting, I can come back later,” Reyna says, her voice laced with a quiet dignity that makes my annoyance flare up.

Suddenly, my guilt morphs into irritation.

Cassian is my husband; I shouldn’t be feeling this way because of her.

He often accuses me of being the emotional manipulator in our relationship, but it’s Reyna who has always wielded that power over us.

Well, she’s not the only one who can pursue what she desires.

“Cassian,” I say, my voice low and sultry as I pivot towards him, “I think you might have torn off one of my buttons. Could you take a look?”

I don’t need to glance at Reyna to know her fury is simmering just beneath the surface. I can feel it radiating from her, a palpable heat that makes my skin prickle.

I don’t expect Cassian to respond. I anticipate him to scoff and turn away, dismissing my playful request.

Instead, he leans down, his gaze fixed on my cleavage as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world.
