Chapter 474

Vicky’s POV
Ugh, finally! I knew coming here was the right move. These two lovebirds and that quiet mouse, Linda, would have kept Mikhail in the dark forever.
“I’m here precisely because you’d never know the truth about your precious ‘first love‘ otherwise!” I snap, my voice dripping with the satisfaction of holding a winning hand. I see that Gemma slink to the side, probably trying to be invisible.
Good! She can watch without eating away all the attention, for
once.
Mikhail just frowns at me. Typical!
He is always defensive when she’s involved, like I’m going to bulldoze her or something.
But I don’t let such tempting thoughts derail me.
I rummage in my bag and pull out the folder. I shove it right at his chest. “Take a good look. Your angelic Linda? Not only has she been pregnant before, but she lost it too! She’s had a miscarriage.”

shrugs? “So she had a miscarriage. The kid wasn’t mine anyway. Why are you showing me this?”
Is he stupid? Is he trying to be difficult?
“Did you even read it?!” I jab my finger at the report. “It says she has a thin uterine wall! She might not be able to have kids again. Do you get it? If you shack up with her, your family name ends with you! Poof!”
How can he not see how serious this is? It’s basic math!
He just stares at me like I’m the crazy one. “Vicky, first, I’m not marrying Linda. Second, if my future wife can’t have children, we’ll adopt. Third, I don’t like you, and I am definitely not marrying you.”
There it is. That cold rejection, again.
He says it so easily, like he’s ordering coffee. No consideration for my feelings, for all the years I’ve loved only him.
It stings, fresh and sharp every time. My voice comes out shaky, and I hate it. “What’s so wrong with me?”
I’ve waited for him, I’ve been good. I’ve never even looked at anyone else! My love is pure, and he treats it like trash.

Feeling. That’s it? That’s his grand reason? It’s not that I’m not pretty enough, or smart enough, or from a good enough family. It’s just… nothing.
A void where his affection for me should be.
It’s more crushing than any insult. Because there’s nothing to fight against… just his absolute, utter indifference.
Mikhail’s POV
I watch Vicky’s back as she marches off without saying a word, the door swinging shut on her dramatic exit.
Good riddance!
Whatever she got offended at, why couldn’t she do it sooner?! Then this heavenly silence would have returned to the room sooner than this, rather than the screams of her misplaced
anger.
Gemma lets out a soft sigh beside me. “She’s just a girl, Mikhail. Did you have to be so harsh?”
My expression doesn’t change. “If I’m not crystal clear, she’ll take a millimeter and build a mile of hope.”
I know girls can be sensitive. But Vicky? She’s a force of will. Eyen with me being brutally, unequivocally blunt, she keeps 5:51

And then I’ll never be free of her.
Gemma seems to read my thoughts and lets it go. Her eyes drift to the medical report Vicky slapped on my bed before fleeing. Bringing up Linda now would just be poking a fresh bruise. We sit in the strained quiet.
Thirty minutes later, my phone vibrates on the bedside table. Liam. It’s probably about his sister. Again. I ignore it.
A moment later, Gemma’s phone rings. She answers, listens, and her brow furrows with concern. “He says Vicky just walked into The Gilded Cage.”
The Gilded Cage. The most notoriously rowdy,
pick–up–artist–heavy bar in the city. My stomach drops. This woman is a walking, talking liability.
Gemma holds her phone out to me, her expression saying ‘you deal with this‘.
I take it. “Mikhail,” Liam’s voice is tight with a brother’s panic. “You have to handle this. I can’t reason with her. You know what that place is like after dark. She’s alone. Please, go and get her out. Trust me, if it was possible, I would have bothered anyone apart from you. But this time… it has to be you.”
I’m not supposed to leave this bed. The stitches are holding, but thedoctor was clear: no sudden movements, no unnecessary5:51
