The Don Tore Up Our Divorce (Gemma and Cassian) novel Chapter 48

**Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane Crest**

**Chapter 48**

**Gemma**

With a decisive tap, I close the chat window with Cassian, my mind still swirling with our conversation. My gaze drifts to the inbox we established for Moonlight, and I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement.

Orders are pouring in, and it’s exhilarating to see the response we’re getting. But one particular subject line stands out like a beacon in the sea of messages:

“Target: Blackwell.”

Curiosity piqued, I click it open. The message is from someone looking to disrupt the Blackwell family’s weapons smuggling operations. A shiver runs down my spine at the thought. Cassian had always kept me at arm’s length from that side of his world, never allowing me to get involved.

I pause to consider the implications of what they’re asking me to do. The request is straightforward, but the potential fallout for the Blackwell family looms large in my mind. They want me to create a little chaos, to stir the pot.

Just a little.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s unlikely to make a significant impact. More importantly, I reassure myself, it won’t put Cassian or Grandpa Donovan in any immediate danger.

With a deep breath, I click my auto-reply and accept the job.

**11:29**

Zina, ever watchful, leans over my shoulder. “Cassian just tried to hire you. Are you sure you want to go against him so openly?”

I can’t suppress the grin that spreads across my face. “Oh, hell yes,” I reply defiantly. “He deserves it.”

Zina bursts into laughter, giving me a high five that resonates with our shared mischief. She wanders over to the fridge, her fingers mindlessly pulling out an apple. As she munches on it, her gaze drifts to the calendar hanging on the wall.

“What’s this charity gala you’ve noted for tomorrow night? Is Moonlight diving back into charity work?”

I shrug, trying to downplay it. “I’ve done a bit of altruistic money moving like I used to,” I say, recalling the thrill of helping others. “But no, it’s more personal. There’s an internationally renowned psychiatrist attending. I want to meet him and see if he might help my mom.”

Zina’s expression shifts, her face becoming serious. “Oh,” she says, her tone changing. “Are you hoping for a date?”

“Yeah, I actually would appreciate some company,” I admit, though my heart flutters with anxiety.

Even as I speak, a whirlwind of nerves swirls within me. The thought of Zina by my side comforts me.

I’ve done my homework on this psychiatrist; he could potentially provide the answers I’ve been desperate for regarding my mother’s condition. For the first time in ages, I allow myself to hope.

XXXXX

The next day flies by, and before I know it, I’m preparing for the gala. I didn’t take anything from Cassian’s place, but I’ve managed to stay on friendly terms with some of the staff.

I request one of them to fetch the diamond necklace “he” gifted me for my birthday during our second year together. In truth, it was a delivery driver who handed it to me with the claim that it was from Cassian. Later, I learned it was actually from Grandpa Donovan, who had always known me better than Cassian ever did.
