Gemma

I’m stunned, unable to say a word.

“I saw you eyeing it at the auction. So I bought it for you.”

What?

Did I hear him wrong?

Cassian never does things like that. He’d never given me a single gift that wasn’t secretly from Grandpa. He’s always made me feel like I don’t deserve anything from him.

Why is he suddenly being so generous? And of course, Claire knew exactly how to use Reyna to push my buttons. But with our divorce looming, there’s no reason for him to be this nice to me anymore.

I push myself up from my seat, my voice firm. “I don’t need this, Cassian. Seriously. Just take it back.”

Cassian is still trying to talk as I walk back to the staircase. leading to my bedroom.

“Gemma, stop!”

Cassian has never noticed how I always storm off when I’m mad. I’ve never given him a chance. Maybe my constant anger toward him is starting to push the limit.

“You’re staying at Blackwell Mansion tonight,” he says, his voice turning cold. “Your bags are already here.”

Mentioning the luggage just makes me even angrier. Why does he think he can decide where I stay without asking

me?

“Am I your fucking puppet?” I shoot at him. “Nope. So I’m leaving.”

“My grandpa and your mom already noticed something’s going on. If they find out you moved out, Grandpa will worry even more. For his health, you should move back,” Cassian says.

But he’s not finished.

“Don’t forget how much you owe my grandfather.

Yes, I know. Thanks to Donovan, I was able to pay off that huge debt. Even if Cassian and I get divorced, I still owe that Grandpa a debt I can never repay.

I grit my teeth. Bringing up Grandpa and his health is a low blow.

“Fine,” I bite out. “I’ll stay.”

After seeing the victorious look in Cassian’s eyes, I add, “But I have conditions.”

“First, my mom’s house goes to me in the divorce. Second, we split everything 50/50. Lastly, while we’re still married, we stay out of each other’s personal lives.”

Damn it, I just want to get this divorce over with. I never cared about splitting assets.

But since Cassian insists on giving me something, why not take it? In his eyes, I was always just a gold digger

anyway.

And staying out of each other’s personal lives is non–negotiable. I can’t be subjected to seeing him and Réfna together. It will kill me.

Of course, that hits a nerve.

I don’t back down. Yes, I’m a gold digger right now.

“So, you’re in such a hurry to divorce me just to take half of my assets?” Cassian raises a brow, angry.

“Haven’t you always known? I’m a greedy woman,” I reply coldly.

I’ve explained myself countless times before, and he’s never believed me. There’s no point in trying again.

“If you really want me to stay, you’ll have to agree to my

terms.”
