The Don Tore Up Our Divorce (Gemma and Cassian) novel Chapter 87

**Before Rain Touches Earth Memories Return With Gentle Warmth by Eli Dane**

**Chapter 87**

**Gemma**

The moment I stepped into Reyna’s house, I could feel the temperature drop. Her expression was a mix of fury and disbelief, as if my very presence was an affront to her. And to add fuel to the fire, I had the audacity to arrive with Cassian, a man she has laid claim to in her mind, as if he were a trophy she could flaunt.

I locked eyes with her and forced a saccharine smile, one that felt as artificial as the flowers in a cheap vase. “Cassian mentioned that one of my so-called friends sent you a threatening message this morning, so I thought I’d come by to see how you were holding up.”

The sight of her anger was almost intoxicating. Did she really believe she could outmaneuver me in this twisted game we’ve been playing? Ha!

Reyna blinked, and I noticed her body begin to tremble. It was almost theatrical, the way tears welled up in her eyes before spilling over, cascading down her cheeks as she collapsed into Cassian’s embrace. “Everyone at work thinks I’m your mistress now. My career is ruined!” she wailed, her voice quivering with feigned distress.

Cassian leaned closer, his voice a soothing balm amidst her chaos. “It’s alright. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this. I won’t let these rumors touch you.”

He guided her to the couch, where she nestled against him like a frightened child seeking comfort. The image twisted my stomach in knots; her performance as the innocent victim was so flawless that it made me want to retch.

Reyna’s eyes, glimmering with fresh tears, flicked toward me, and I could see the challenge lurking behind her facade. “Gemma, there’s nothing going on between Cassian and me. We’re just college buddies and coworkers. Can you please tell your friends to back off? I really don’t want to be mistaken for a mistress. If it bothers you that much, I can quit.”

More lies.

Her tone was soft, dripping with what she hoped was sincerity, but her eyes betrayed her. They sparkled with a competitive glint. When Cassian’s back was turned, she shot me a smirk, a taunt that echoed years of rivalry. She had always been the queen of this game, effortlessly outmaneuvering me since childhood. And judging by the way her lips curled in that smug smile, she believed she had the upper hand yet again.

I sank into the single armchair across the room, a smile creeping onto my lips despite myself. What a perfect match they made.

I couldn’t quite grasp why I felt a surge of emotion. Cassian and I were on the brink of divorce—none of this should hold any weight for me. Yet, watching them huddled together, so intimate and comfortable, ignited a slow, simmering anger deep within my chest.

A nagging suspicion gnawed at me, whispering that Reyna had orchestrated this entire mess.

Intimate photographs, threatening texts, cruel words—this was all her doing, a meticulously crafted scheme to paint me as the villain in her twisted narrative.

Did she truly believe she could bring me down with her petty games?

Just then, Cassian’s phone buzzed, and he excused himself to answer it, casting me a warning glance as he left. “Don’t be rude to Reyna,” he instructed, his tone firm.

I nearly burst out laughing. Reyna was actively trying to ruin my life, yet I was the one being told to mind my manners?

Once he disappeared onto the balcony, I turned my attention back to Reyna, who was still clinging to her pitiful act. “Cut the charade. He can’t see you now.”

Her large, tear-filled eyes blinked at me, feigning innocence. “Gemma, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
