Mischa watched as Alpha Nicholas and Beta Jeremy got out of Nick’s car and the man stretched himself out. She’d heard him state before he felt cramped even in his own car, he was simply just to big and tall to be comfortable in any car out there.
She chuckled softly to herself as she recalled that, and Anthony’s arm was suddenly snapped around her waist and she was yanked into his side quite tightly. It wasn’t warranted at all, what she was seeing down there with Nicholas was what she always saw, which meant it
was what Anthony always saw as well.
The man was wearing a pair of casual jeans and a well–fitted tee–shirt, but that too, was nothing knew, it was actually how he always dressed when attending mating balls. He had a Mate and didn’t need to dress up to be here. Though inside his own pack, he always wore a suit for a mating ball. He’d once told her he liked having any excuse to dress up for Lucinda.
She watched as Nicholas looked at the way Anthony was being all possessive of her, and his eyes actually moved to the arm tightly around her and a low growl suddenly came from Anthony as they stared at Nicholas. So much for a pleasant meet and greet, she thought.
This was not how one greeted their allies.
“Something wrong Alpha Anthony, with my being here?” Nicholas asked.
“No,” Mischa stated with a shake of her head. “He’s having a moment, concerned that I like the look of you, apparently.”
Nicholas raised an eyebrow, “Why, I’m happily mated. Never look at anyone other than
Lucinda.”
“Stay that way, Mischa belongs to me,” Anthony muttered, but then took in a breath, and she felt him settle himself at hearing his own words and realizing just how rude he was being to their strongest allied Alpha. “Welcome to Night Whispers.” Anthony finally greeted Nicholas.
“Am I actually welcome?” Nicholas asked.
“Yes, of course you are Alpha Nicholas,” she smiled at him. “Don’t mind the sudden possessiveness, we’re at odds currently.” She explained the reason for this sudden change in Anthony’s behavior to what they would all normally see.
“Ah, I see.” Nicholas nodded.
“How is Lucinda?” she asked only to hear Jeremy chuckle as Nicholas‘ face lit up with real happiness.

“Pregnant, Rip is certain it is his and Ky’ra’s,” he chuckled softly. “I beg to differ.”
“Congratulations Nick, that would be pup number?” Anthony asked.

“Five, one away from the litter we want.” Nicholas smiled and finally walked up the stairs to do the meet and greet, reached out to shake Anthony’s hand.
She understood why he’d stayed down by his car for most of that conversation, and Alpha Wolf, full of jealousy, could see a fight break out over something small and meaningless. He’d waited until Anthony had reined himself in, even imparted news to settle the Alpha before him and alleviate any fears or jealousy.
Anthony finally relaxed his grip upon her as he shook hands with Nicholas. “An heir for you, is that why the sudden flare of jealousy? Are you also newly pregnant Mischa?”
“No heir, I’m still on birth control.” She stated simply.
Anthony turned and looked at her. “I thought you’d come off that after the last discussion about the pack’s heir and who was going to have it.”
“I did not.” She answered him as simply as she’d answered Nicholas. “There is no need for it
either, my heat has been and gone, and the next one is not for five more months.”
“I’d like you to come off that now. As discussed, it will be up to the will of the Goddess who carries the pack’s heir. Your choice alone on that. I want it to be your child who is the heir to the pack.”
“Mm.” she nodded. “I heard you,” she stated, and turned back to the actual task at hand. ”
Nicholas, no Kevin or Braidy?”
“No, just Jeremy. I only found out today about the pup, so until the pup is born, Lucinda will always have Kevin and Braidy in the pack if Jeremy and I are needed elsewhere. She doesn’t think it’s necessary,” he shook his head.
Jeremy chuckled, “It’s probably not. She’s got a whole possie of trained teens and young adults around her all the time. Plus, Faylan would never allow any harm to come to her. Peas in a pod at times.”
Nicholas smiled. “Naughty both of them.”
“Alright, I’ll show you two up to your suite then.” She motioned for them to step inside and tried to step away from Anthony to do her job of showing Alphas and their units up to their suites, something she usually did on her own without issue if they were allied to the pack. Only to have Anthony’s hand suddenly in hers, and he was then walking right next to her. As he waved Kendrick to show Nicholas‘ warriors to their accomodation.

She looked right at him, she’d walked Nicholas and his Beta through this packhouse many times before on her own without issue. Anthony smiled at her, although even to her, it looked a bit on the strained side. She just shook her head and let it go for now, or they were going to be getting into it in front of all their allies.
Nicholas, however, chuckled. He was a possessive Alpha of his Luna, and knew what he was seeing. It was actually something she’d seen in Nicholas himself more than once. He didn’t like any un–mated Alpha near his Luna, even all these years later, it was still something he got possessive about and wasn’t afraid to show it either.
She’d even seen Lucinda roll her eyes and tell him it was enough, point her finger at him and tell his own beast when it surfaced to growl at others to stand down. She had no fear of her
Alpha Mate, as no Luna should.
They walked up the stairs to the first floor, and Nicholas turned and looked at her at the door to his and Jeremy’s suite, “Now, Mish, what on earth did you state with regard to myself that evokes that kind of reaction from Anthony towards me?” he asked.
She smiled at the way he’d shortened her name, implying a close familiarity between them, and she got the feeling he did it on purpose. It wasn’t often over the past two years he’d have ever seen Anthony get jealous over anyone’s attention on her, and probably thought it was about time. He also knew things weren’t all hunky–dory between herself and Christy where Anthony was concerned.
“Nothing at all. I simply smiled at knowing you had arrived. That was all. I guess that smile, it reached my eyes. You should probably ask Anthony. It came out of nowhere and is unwarranted, as far as I can tell,” she answered him.
“You bloody stated…” Anthony bit out and then cut his own words off.
Jeremy laughed. “You made him jealous, I see.‘
“Mm, it does appear that way. I honestly thought he was past that kind of behavior. I’ve not seen it in a few years,” she shrugged.
“It never goes away, Mischa. Mates always get jealous when one implies what you did,” Anthony stated through gritted teeth. He was still unhappy just thinking about it.
“Goddess, Anthony, all I stated was Nicholas is good–looking, let it go.” She shook her head only to have Anthony yank her around to face him and there was that angry jealousy on his
face.
“Oh and you didn’t imply that the two of fucked before we became Mates.” He grated out at
her.

She stared up at him, unfazed by that anger, he’d never ever struck her, and she didn’t think he would now, he was just in a jealous rage over nothing at all.
Was only in this rage because their bond was fractured, and he was alone, and having to deal with her not wanting to be in his bed. Which led him to think she might leave him at any minute, and so her stating another wolf, regardless of what rank he was, was good–looking, would set him off into thinking she was attracted to them, and might consider rejecting him because of that wolf, and nothing more.
“Calm down, Anthony,” Nicholas interrupted them, “Stop and do the math, settle yourself, I’m actually younger than Mischa, so it’s not possible she scented you out at 19, did she not? Right after you returned from Alpha College.”
She watched Anthony frown even as Nicholas‘ eyes moved to her questioningly, and she sighed. “I did state we were at odds currently.”
“Mm, now I see just how much.” Nicholas nodded.
“My apologies, Nicholas, I did allow his mind to go where it wanted without correcting him, but all I did was say a simple ‘Mm‘ and nothing more, the rest was in his head.” She informed
him.
“Right,” Nicholas murmured. “I’ll leave you two to it then,” he’d stated and walked into his suite along with Jeremy.
She turned her eyes back to Anthony. “Are you done being jealous and angry over something that you also know never happened, but somehow seemed to forget?”
“You implied that on purpose, put those thoughts in my head. All I did was react as any Mate would.” He bit out and finally let go of her arm, and turned and stalked away from her.
“Well, I guess it’s nice to know that you can still get jealous at all. I honestly didn’t think you cared anymore,” she called after him.
He stopped walking, and she watched him take several calming breaths, then he just turned and looked at her, sighed and connected himself to her via a mind–link ‘Do you really believe I don’t love you anymore, or care about you?‘ he asked.
She nodded slowly to indicate; yes. ‘How would you feel in my shoes after all that you did? Were your actions to be seen as that of a loving, caring Mate or seen to be as one that didn’t care?‘ she put right to him.
She saw real pain there in his expression, but he had no one to blame bar himself. ‘I made myself clear, Anthony. I’m indifferent because that’s how you have been to me for almost a full year now, she told him once more.

‘That will not happen again, Mischa. I am very sorry. I do love you and want us to stay together, regrow our bond back to what it once was.‘ He walked back to her and sighed, ‘I see now, it’s going to take time. Forgiveness has to be earned, not just granted as I… expected
you to do.‘
‘Correct.‘ She agreed with him.
‘Please, do me one favor, don’t incite my or Shade’s jealousy at this mating ball on purpose. Certainly not with Alpha Nicholas. He’s pure–blooded, you recall, and I don’t believe he’s ever
lost a duel.‘
‘Then don’t arc up, you know Nicholas and I have always gotten along well, that we’ve always sat and talked at dinner, and during mating balls, while you’re off with Christy on your arm… He is mated, I am mated. There is no problem with us sitting and talking like we’ve always done for years, even before he was mated to Lucinda.’ She reminded him.
Anthony nodded slowly and dropped the mind–link. “Let’s go back downstairs.”
“You go, I’m going to go and check on the private dinner and make the adjustments for Kevin and Braidy not being here. I wasn’t informed of that,” she told him, and walked off to attend Luna Duties and change the seating and inform the chef of the two less meals that needed
to be made.
