The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 1803

"I told her she had to choose between Jasper and Simone Lerman," Haynes said.

Abby laughed. "Well, look at you, finally doing the right thing."

Haynes was silent.

Although Rachel had been rescued and had recovered after a period of recuperation, her once-beautiful face had been badly disfigured from the long torment she endured at Simone's hands.

The wounds on her face, left untreated for too long, had become red, swollen, and infected. After they healed, they left behind terrifying scars.

Jasper, who had once seen Rachel as a goddess, was so horrified by her appearance that he couldn't even sleep at night.

Having been pampered since childhood, Jasper was now not only disgraced but also drowning in debt. The wealthy friends who used to flock around him had all turned their backs. Not only did none of them help, but they all kicked him while he was down.

Haynes no longer helped him, and even Foreman had cut ties with him for what he'd done to Stella.

When Rachel first said she wanted to find him, Jasper had been happy, feeling that his love hadn't been misplaced. But upon seeing her terrifying face, he nearly lost his mind. The idealized image he had of her shattered in an instant.

With the Wilkinson family bankrupt, Rachel didn't want to be with the penniless Jasper either. But she had no choice.

So, Rachel did everything she could to cling to Jasper. To ensure he could never get rid of her, she even played the victim, claiming that Simone had caused her to have a miscarriage.

Cuckolded and tricked into being a father, Jasper's rage boiled over. He stabbed the neighbor to death. He didn't escape the law and was sentenced to life in prison.

Rachel thought that with Jasper gone, she could live freely. However, she had forgotten about her disfigured face and her body, which had become bloated after childbirth. Even when she tried to find a job as a cleaner, her appearance would frighten people. Besides, she wasn't willing to do manual labor.

She tried to find Haynes, but by then, she had long lost the right to see him. She couldn't even get close before being stopped.

And so, Rachel was forced to survive by rummaging through trash cans, becoming a homeless beggar on the city streets.

Of course, all of this came much later.
