The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2011

At the time, she thought the cat had accidentally eaten a poisonous herb. She never imagined...

A suffocating wave of despair washed over Stella. In that moment, her desire to destroy Foreman Richards was so intense she would have gladly dragged him to hell with her.

But she couldn't waste time on him. She had to save her baby.

This was Mr. Burton's estate; Foreman wouldn't dare make too much of a scene here.

A tearing, agonizing cramp seized her abdomen, and cold sweat soaked her back.

Foreman had initially wanted to chase her down, but he knew the commotion would draw attention. Poisoning Stella on Mr. Burton's turf was already a massive risk. If he didn't run now, escape would be impossible once the truth came out.

He hesitated for a second, then stopped.

Either way, her baby was a lost cause. As long as he made it out alive, he could fight another day. He'd find another chance to take Stella away.

Shooting one last look in her direction, Foreman sprinted into the shadows.

...

Rounding a corner, Stella slammed into a solid chest.

Through her blurry vision, she could only make out the vague outline of a man. Her consciousness was slipping fast.

Leonard Lerman looked down at the woman who had collided with him, a flicker of surprise in his eyes quickly morphing into a deep frown.

"Stella?" his voice dropped, laced with concern. "What's wrong? You're completely pale."

Stella was hanging onto consciousness by a thread of pure willpower, entirely unable to recognize the man standing in front of her. Tears streamed down her face as her fingers instinctively curled into his sleeve, desperate for a lifeline.

"Please... save my baby..."

Leonard's gaze dropped to the crimson droplets staining the floor.
