The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2083

Even as slow as Queenie was, she knew Joshua was absolutely tearing her apart.

Her face flushed bright red with fury. She opened her mouth several times to fire back, but couldn't string a coherent sentence together.

Joshua ignored her completely and turned his attention to Aurora.

"Ms. Williams, I admire the person who played that violin piece, which is why I was willing to grant them one wish.

But that doesn't mean I'm an idiot waiting to be scammed.

I've heard of emotional blackmail, but getting blackmailed just for walking by and hearing a song is a new one.

Your demands are absurd. I won't do it."

With that, he stood up.

"My apologies for taking up so much of your time. Just pretend I was never here, Ms. Williams. Goodbye."

Joshua headed for the door.

Aurora and Queenie both paled.

They hadn't expected him to just walk out.

Aurora jumped up and blocked his path. "Joshua, please don't take it seriously. Queenie was just messing around. You know how she loves to joke."

Queenie, catching on immediately, chimed in. "Joshua, did you really believe that? I was just pulling your leg!"

Joshua stopped. "Is that right? You put on quite the performance, Ms. Burton."

Queenie forced a playful smile. "I've always dreamed of being an actress, but my family would never let me show my face on screen, so I had to put that dream on hold."

She adopted a sheepish expression.

"Honestly... whenever I meet someone new, I like to act out a little scene to see if my skills can fool them... Just scratching that acting itch, you know?
