The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 2089

"However, since you went through all the trouble to rush over here and warn me, it wouldn't be fair to send you away empty-handed."

Stella's head snapped up, her eyes locking onto his.

He looked down at her, a casual smile playing on his lips. "Aurora and I are heading to the racetrack later. Would you care to join us?"

The heavy weight of disappointment vanished in an instant.

"Yes."

He pulled out his phone and dialed Aurora's number.

"I have some business to take care of later tonight. Can we move up our plans?"

Inside the auditorium, Aurora had been secretly panicking, terrified that he would leave and never come back. Hearing his voice immediately put her at ease.

"Of course," she cooed softly. "I'll make the arrangements right away."

"Get it set up and meet me at the entrance," he instructed.

"I will," she promised eagerly.

He hung up, and the two of them stood in silence outside the doors, waiting for her to emerge.

Stella had a million things she wanted to say to him, but the words died in her throat. No matter how eloquently she spun her story, it couldn't compete with hard evidence.

She stayed quiet, and he didn't seem inclined to start a conversation either. He stared down at his phone, the faint, tinny sound of a mobile game cutting through the quiet night.

It would take Aurora a few minutes to get everything sorted, so she wouldn't be out immediately. Left with nothing else to do, Stella pulled out her own phone to kill time.
