"Let's just head back now," Stella said.

"Stay here," Joshua replied. "I'll bring the car around. There's an umbrella inside; I'll bring it to you."

As he turned to leave, she stopped him.

"What about you?"

The rain was so heavy that he would be drenched to the bone in seconds.

Joshua offered a faint smile. "It's just a little rain. It's nothing to me."

Stella's eyes flickered.

He was right. Compared to everything he had endured in the past, getting caught in a storm was nothing.

He tossed her his jacket. "Drape this over yourself when we head out so you don't get soaked."

She opened her mouth to argue, but he anticipated her words and cut her off smoothly.

"It's better for one of us to get wet than both. I have a stronger constitution than you. Don't worry about me."

Holding his jacket, an indescribable emotion swelled in Stella's chest.

She didn't refuse again. "Okay."

Joshua stepped out into the storm, his figure quickly swallowed by the blinding rain.

A few minutes later, he pulled the car up to the theater entrance.

The driver's side door swung open, and he stepped out, popping open a large black umbrella.

He hurried over to her. After a quick glance to ensure the jacket was wrapped tightly around her shoulders, he said, "Let's go."

The wind roared outside. The moment she stepped past the doors, Stella felt the icy sting of rain against her face.

She turned her head and realized Joshua was tilting the entire umbrella over her, leaving more than half of his own body exposed to the elements.

A soft ache brushed against her heart, as delicate as a feather.

Without thinking, she reached out and grasped the umbrella handle.
