"Mommy, I still want to sleep..." the little guy mumbled, pressing his cheek snugly against Lucy's chest.

Lucy carried him outside, hoping the cool evening breeze would help him wake up. "If you sleep any longer, you'll be up all night with me."

Seven gave a groggy little "Oh" and furrowed his brows. "Then I'll just sleep tonight."

Lucy tilted her head and pressed a tender kiss to his forehead. They were taking a slow stroll across the estate's sprawling lawn when the front gate buzzer suddenly rang.

Lucy carried Seven over to the intercom. Kingsley Sherwood's face appeared clearly on the security screen. Seven took one look and chirped, "Uncle Kingsley!" before his little face immediately darkened. "I'm not talking to him anymore. He's too mean!"

She set Seven down on his feet and pressed the unlock button. The heavy iron gates slowly swung open.

Seven stood firmly at the entrance, his little arms crossed behind his back. The second he saw Kingsley, he scowled and shouted, "What are you doing at my house? I'm never talking to you again!"

Kingsley looked at the boy's tense, deeply serious expression and felt a warm smile touch his eyes. He crouched down, his tone incredibly gentle. "I came to see you. How did I upset my little Seven so much that you won't even talk to me?"

Seven tipped his chin up in defiance. "I don't want a mean guy like you around! You bullied Uncle Holt, and you were super scary!"

The innocent words felt like tiny needles piercing Kingsley's chest. His own son was fiercely defending Jules Holt. It left a bitter, sour taste in his mouth—a mixture of deep jealousy and undeniable envy.

"Then what do I have to do for you to forgive me, and call me Uncle Kingsley again?" Kingsley's tone carried a hint of grievance, along with absolute surrender.
