The Royal Palace, snow drifting.
Samuel Chalmers stood in a dark cloak atop a high wall within the Castle Town.
From there, he could overlook half of the Imperial City and also use the sense from the gold ring on his wrist to locate the position of another ring’s owner.
His gaze fell on a certain spot in the city, his black eyes deep and mysterious.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded behind him.
The State Preceptor led a group of Palace Attendants who hurriedly approached and knelt behind him.
"Your Majesty, Your Majesty’s health has not fully recovered; how can you endure the cold? Please, Your Majesty, return to the palace swiftly."
Samuel Chalmers’ gaze fell on the solemn and dignified face of the leading State Preceptor.
The owner of the body he reincarnated into was the Heavenly Origin Emperor. Unlike Scarlett Jennings, the Heavenly Origin Emperor was not recently deceased but rather had his soul trapped and dormant.
Samuel had just arrived and didn’t know who had targeted the emperor.
The fortune of the emperor represented the national fate, and clearly, someone intended to destroy the entire Heavenly Origin.
Although he did not know why he and Scarlett had traveled over six thousand years into the past of the Heavenly Origin Dynasty, since entangled with fate, he could only take it one step at a time.
And the first step was to find Scarlett.
If there was news about Susan, he would bring her back as well.
With these thoughts in mind, Samuel simply said,
"I am fine now. Regarding the matter of welcoming the Phoenix Lord into the palace as previously mentioned by the State Preceptor, I intend to choose personally. The State Preceptor need not intervene for now."
The State Preceptor appeared momentarily stunned, then lowered his eyes slightly, concealing all emotions on his face, and nodded respectfully,
"Understood."
...
The Phoenix Residence.
Because of the incident of Scarlett Jennings "slapping Edith across the air," no one dared to provoke her again for the next two days, fearing her abilities.
Meanwhile, though Edith had her challenges, Jordan Phoenix was suffering quite a lot.
Since he left Scarlett Jennings’ courtyard that day, he had been starved for a full two days.
He couldn’t eat or drink.
Even though he craved food and could barely control himself smelling its aroma, perversely, any food that seemed appetizing would turn rancid and foul the moment it touched his lips.
After vomiting twice more, Jordan could no longer endure it,
"Where is everyone?! Where’s my mother? Does the person she found have any use? If this goes on, I’ll starve to death."
His maids and servants, seeing their young master emaciated after just two days, could only offer reassurances,
"Young master, Madam and Master have already consulted a high master to find a solution, please endure a while longer."
"Indeed, young master, please don’t speak like that. Miss Lily was starved for three days and didn’t die when she was confined earlier, and it’s only been two days for you; you definitely won’t die from this!"
If not for the servant who had been with him since childhood, Jordan might have thought this was Lily Phoenix’s scheme to humiliate him deliberately!
Yet, this did not stop Jordan from lashing out at those in front of him,
"Get lost! And any of you who ate meat, if you smell like it, get as far away as possible! Don’t you know I can’t eat anything now?!"
Jordan’s outburst left him exhausted.
Lying on the bed, Jordan felt tormented to the point of tears.
So, this is what hunger feels like?
At his age, it was his first time experiencing the pain of an empty stomach.
Though those delicious foods could be brought to him at a word, he couldn’t swallow a single bite.
Even as the aroma of food reached his nose, the hunger only intensified.
"Lily Phoenix is utterly ruthless. Would she really let me starve to death?..."
Jordan thought groggily, though the idea of bowing to her was utterly inconceivable.
He refused to believe in a world full of capable people, no one could subdue her!
As if sensing Jordan’s inner torture, the high master invited by Hudson Phoenix finally arrived.
"Don’t... don’t come near..."
Saying this, he retched again, but with nothing left in his stomach, only managed to spit out some bile.
Jordan burst into tears, "You all smell foul, don’t come near me..."
This frightened everyone in the room.
This situation hadn’t occurred before.
Previously, at least, the scents were normal. After drinking that Talisman Water, why had it worsened?!
Even Hudson Phoenix looked troubled, demanding from the Immortal Master,
"What is really going on here?!"
The Immortal Master did not expect this either, but his expression remained calm as he calculated with his fingers, saying,
"Earlier, I miscalculated; the young lord wasn’t afflicted with a mere curse, but by a Resentful Ghost. For him to recover, we first need to subdue this ghost."
With that, the Immortal Master pulled out an Eight Diagrams Plate from his sleeve, pricked a drop of blood from Jordan Phoenix’s hand.
The blood vanished upon touching the plate, and then the plate’s symbols shifted, guiding the Immortal Master swiftly outside.
The group, seeing this, hurriedly followed.
Trailing him along the eaves, into the courtyard, they saw a figure slowly approaching from the gate.
Edith spotted her from afar and exclaimed,
"It’s Sister Lily!"
Lady Phoenix and Hudson Phoenix, realizing something, looked at Lily Phoenix with increased revulsion and suspicion.
Could it be that this daughter was not deeply disguised but merely... possessed by a ghost?
If that was the case, it would indeed be best for the Immortal Master to settle it soon.
Everyone present thought so.
They watched as the Immortal Master, holding the Eight Diagrams Plate, swiftly headed towards Lily Phoenix, elegantly and... passed right by her.
