Magnolia Hearne may be a bit of a crybaby, but she’s not the type to just burst into tears at any moment.
Scarlett Jennings thought it might be because she and Samuel Chalmers were caught up in the time-space turbulence, which delayed their return and worried Magnolia, but she felt that might not be the real reason.
Aaron Hearne happened to appear with her, and Scarlett had recently witnessed a thousand-year-old demon bully her three-year-old mother into tears.
Naturally, she assumed it was because of him.
Aaron was... kind of innocent.
He clearly didn’t do anything.
He even got snapped at.
Emily Hearne watched Magnolia holding Scarlett and crying like a child. Her eyes were filled with complex emotions. She wanted to step forward, but knew her child had long since stopped caring for her.
Both Emily and Aaron kept their distance.
It was Donovan Jennings who arrived and cleared his throat, quickly comforting his mother along with Scarlett.
Magnolia was initially overwhelmed with emotion, but once she confirmed Scarlett was fine, she quickly calmed down.
Several clan elders in the Clan Garden sensed their presence and instantly came over.
They had already heard from Susan that Scarlett and the others encountered the Ten-tailed Sky Fox and had even shown ten tails.
The elders looked at Scarlett with intense curiosity, unable to believe that she had cultivated ten tails in just under three years.
In their eagerness to know the truth, one of the elders immediately asked,
"Scarlett, we hear you encountered the fortune of the ten tails in the past time-space, and you’ve cultivated ten tails. Is it true?"
Others inquired, "You were caught in the time-space turbulence—was the divine soul of the ten tails damaged? Could we examine it closely?"
Their tone was full of urgency and concern, but not for Scarlett’s well-being.
Emily and Aaron couldn’t help but frown upon hearing this.
Before they could speak, Magnolia, already on edge because of this issue, exploded first.
Pulling Scarlett behind her, Magnolia disregarded the hierarchy and snapped at the questioning elders,
"Examine your head! My Scarlett just got back, and you’re not worried about whether she’s hurt or scared—you only care if she’s secured the fortune of the ten tails!
You all don’t treat my daughter like a person! She cultivated desperately for Hearne Clan and Demon Clan, but she doesn’t owe you anything! You didn’t protect or nurture her for a single day—what right do you have to dictate here?!"
Even though they were elders, being berated by a mere four-hundred-year-old half-demon was hard for them to stomach, and they were about to flare up in anger.
"You..."
Before he could rebuke, Magnolia interrupted him bluntly,
"You what?! You’re the most disrespectful elder here! Speak again, and I don’t care about whether you’re my kin or senior—believe it or not, I’ll pluck all your fox fur tonight!"
Magnolia was fuming, almost rendering the elders speechless.
Seeing this, Aaron felt a strange sense of balance rise within him.
Equal opportunity aggression, quite nice.
Having berated them, she couldn’t possibly berate him too.
The lead elder’s face darkened slightly. Even though he knew the elder who spoke earlier might have been too hasty, he couldn’t let Magnolia so rudely point fingers at them.
Just as he stepped forward to speak, he suddenly felt three intense stares directed at him.
