Ashton Todd had no idea something had gone wrong on this side of the Hearne Tribe territory.
His main purpose for this trip was to decipher the array in the lake and discover something powerful, intending to tell Scarlett Jennings as soon as possible.
As it happened, Dashiell was out to chase someone, so he hitched a ride on the dragon.
He intended to share his discovery with Scarlett Jennings, but upon landing, he realized Scarlett’s situation seemed more urgent than his.
"An Ancient Barrier?"
Ashton Todd couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Did his companions have too much faith in him?
Even if he could help with research, it’s not something that can be figured out quickly.
Besides!
"We can’t even touch this barrier, how are we supposed to study it..."
Ashton Todd recognized the mountain ahead, but no matter how they circled it, they couldn’t detect any traces of people from the Hearne Tribe territory.
The territory seemed less isolated and more like it had been moved entirely into another space.
Considering this, a thought flashed in Ashton Todd’s mind, and Samuel Chalmers suddenly spoke up from beside him,
"Regarding the array of this Ancient Barrier, I might remember something."
Speaking as he cast a quick shape of the array in the void with Golden Light.
Perhaps because he had interacted with Damian Carlson from six thousand years ago and personally witnessed Damian’s demise and his own rebirth, Samuel Chalmers’ Divine Soul had acquired some ancient knowledge upon returning to the Dragon Vein’s body.
This included the array.
Scarlett Jennings had heard Samuel Chalmers talk about inheriting such knowledge before, so while she wasn’t too surprised, her gaze did flicker briefly.
Because she did not possess any inheritance.
She hadn’t even achieved Ten-tailed, let alone any legacy from Althea.
But such matters were not crucial for the current situation.
Ashton Todd was already fervently fixated on the array shape Samuel Chalmers was crafting in the void.
And the more he looked, the more familiar it seemed.
"Huh?"
This thing seemed somewhat similar to the Otherworld-connecting array he had just deciphered.
However, it was only a bit similar, and really cracking it was quite difficult, not something he could promise lightly.
Scarlett Jennings, hearing his "huh" just now, turned to look his way, and upon seeing the change in his eyes, she pitched him an offer,
"Three million, help me."
At these words, Ashton Todd’s eyes lit up suddenly, but since he was no longer the inexperienced kid he once was, though tempted, he didn’t agree outright,
"It’s not about the money..."
Without wasting words, Scarlett Jennings upped the offer,
"Plus a new dormitory for the welfare institution."
Ashton Todd’s eyebrows shot up promptly, with righteous indignation,
"Given our relationship, I must help even if it kills me! You wait, I’ve already got Inspiration."
When Ashton Todd claimed he had Inspiration, he truly did.
Scarlett Jennings originally thought it would take at least a few days of effort, yet surprisingly, Ashton found her within a day.
"This Ancient Barrier is indeed perfect; outwardly simple, yet extremely intricate, its array logic even has no apparent flaws..."
