Hannah Hearne’s body, lying in Scarlett Jennings’ arms, initially stiffened. As she slowly turned her head, her eyes met the enormous head of a red fox, her pupils suddenly widened.
The girl, who had seemed weak and on the verge of death, suddenly sprang up from Scarlett Jennings’ embrace,
"Mom, mom!"
The red fox instantly transformed into a human shape, and there stood Ianthe Hearne, stepping on Fox Fire, holding a red whip in her hand. She flicked her wrist, and the whip was instantly engulfed in Fox Fire.
Then, she directed the Fox Fire-infused whip towards Hannah Hearne’s backside,
"You remember I’m your mother now?! Of all things, you pretend to be dead! Do you believe I’ll set fire and burn all your novels later on!"
As Hannah Hearne dodged, she didn’t forget to correct her,
"Mom, nowadays novels are read on phones directly; no one reads books anymore. You can’t burn them."
Hearing this, Ianthe Hearne swung her whip with a crackling sound, "Then I’ll burn you instead!"
In this chaotic chase and chaos, on the other side, Scarlett Jennings slowly retracted her hand after Hannah Hearne leaped away, flicking away the blood on her fingertips, then wiping her forehead with the back of her hand.
Acting is so tiring.
If Aunt didn’t come, she was ready to let go of the act.
Just pretending for a bit is fine; carrying on the act... she really couldn’t bring herself to cry.
Meanwhile, Emily Hearne let go of Magnolia Hearne after Ianthe Hearne appeared.
The latter was in a state of almost crying but not quite, now momentarily unable to recover.
It wasn’t that she was too invested; the atmosphere was truly intense just moments ago.
As for Samuel Chalmers, seeing Ianthe Hearne chasing after Hannah Hearne with the whip, he stepped forward, pulled Scarlett Jennings’ hand over, and gently wiped off the blood on her fingers, asking,
"Real blood?"
"It’s fake blood," Scarlett Jennings said, "Intentionally mixed with a bit of Demon Energy, so it smells like her blood."
If she hadn’t sensed it, she wouldn’t have noticed any difference.
Scarlett Jennings and the others remained calm, while over there, Ianthe Hearne, having finished scolding her child, brought her back over.
The candlelight set up earlier in the room had already been extinguished, and Emily Hearne waved her hand, making the room bright as day again.
Hannah Hearne was thrown back, her mouth still stained with bloody residue, her expression returned to normal, looking at everyone, she just smiled,
"Just joking, lightening the mood a bit."
"You dare say that?" Ianthe Hearne almost started scolding her child again.
Hannah Hearne finally shut up.
As she looked back at Scarlett Jennings, she knew she would come to find her.
Cooperating in the act was just a way to reciprocate for helping with the prophecy and its cost.
Hannah Hearne didn’t habitually sacrifice without expecting anything in return; even if Emily Hearne hadn’t pointed out her matters, she would’ve hinted at Scarlett secretly.
Of course, that would be a different scenario altogether.
Even though Hannah Hearne put on an unconcerned appearance, Scarlett Jennings earnestly asked her,
"How much life did you lose?"
Hannah Hearne smiled, then gently gave a number, adding,
"For the Demon Clan, long life is the norm, this little bit of life isn’t significant at all. If I had originally thousands of years, it would mean even less."
Ianthe Hearne, being Hannah Hearne’s mother, would naturally know her situation best.
Hearing how much life her child lost for a prophecy, she couldn’t deny feeling sad.
But even knowing beforehand the price to be paid, she wouldn’t stop her child’s every decision.
Hannah Hearne may be her child, but firstly, she is her own person.
Even though, amongst the Demon Clan, she is not yet of age, demon clan youngsters are never sheltered in a greenhouse.
She has her faith.
And indeed, that’s the truth.
Hannah Hearne chose to predict for Scarlett Jennings after learning the clan’s intentions for the Ten-tailed vessel.
At that point, the incident with Donovan Jennings being taken by the clan hadn’t occurred yet, and Hannah Hearne, like everyone else, assumed the person chosen for the vessel was Scarlett Jennings.
Her prophecy about the Ten-tailed wasn’t for the clan’s sake; it was simply for her friend Scarlett.
Scarlett Jennings understood this well, so, as friends, occasionally going along with the act wasn’t a big deal.
As for the life she lost for the prophecy...
