Otherworld.
A rift opens in space, and Scarlett Jennings steps out of the crack with Samuel Chalmers.
Though she has lost the Power of Heavenly Path, the Heavenly Path Token still grants her the authority to fulfill the Heavenly Path’s duties.
Furthermore, the Otherworld is now formed by her Domain, allowing her to traverse freely between the two realms without relying on an Array.
After passing through the Otherworld Domain and first returning Jasmine Hamilton to her apartment, Scarlett Jennings then leads Samuel Chalmers to the deepest part of her Domain.
This time, bringing Samuel Chalmers over is mainly for the future operation of the Otherworld.
The place still appears verdant with grass, except now, a small sapling floats above this patch of land.
Shellback is sprawled beneath the sapling, its limbs splayed out, looking utterly bored.
Detecting an approaching presence, it suddenly lifts its head, a fierce turtle head extending long from its shell in an imposing manner. Upon realizing it’s Scarlett Jennings and Samuel Chalmers, the laid-back turtle instantly emanates a Black Mist, carrying it swiftly before Scarlett Jennings,
"Scarlett Jennings! You actually left me and ran off on your own! Tell me, have you been planning to abandon me all along?!
I knew it, Heavenly Dao is the most heartless! I betrayed even the Otherworld Heavens to help you, and now that you’ve become the Heavenly Dao, you’re planning to ditch me! You left me, a turtle, here all alone; you’re ruthless, unfaithful! Doesn’t your conscience ache even a little?"
Shellback’s rant is rapid, each word infused with the anger typical of a turtle sovereign, and it doesn’t even give Scarlett Jennings a chance to explain.
Seeing that she can’t get a word in edgewise, Scarlett Jennings decides to remain silent, standing with Samuel Chalmers and listening to its tirade for three minutes.
Thinking it would be over after the rant, but this time the system is evidently quite hurt. Seeing her indifferent to its fury, it turns around after finishing its rant, retreating its head and limbs into its shell.
Despite being enveloped by Black Mist, it inexplicably emits an aura of sulky grievance, hoping for some comfort.
Scarlett Jennings, observing this, simply extends her hand to hold its shell.
The sturdy shell with sharp angles isn’t meant to be petted, so Scarlett Jennings scratches its plastron instead.
"My powers were exhausted during the reformation of the Otherworld, and I left you here because I needed someone to temporarily guard this sapling representing the core of Otherworld Heavens."
Scarlett Jennings says,
"In the Otherworld, you are the only one I trust and who has the ability to watch over it."
Her words filled with absolute recognition and affirmation, causing the little creature curled inside its shell to stir.
After a good while, the fierce Crocodile Tortoise head peeks out from the shell slightly,
"Are you serious? You’re not just trying to placate me, are you?"
Scarlett Jennings clears her throat, her tone serious,
"Only the weak need to be deceived. Your strength ensures that I entrust more to you; the burdens you must carry will also be greater."
Samuel Chalmers, hearing this, couldn’t help but turn his head to look at her.
His deep, dark eyes quietly fixed on her.
Though he says nothing, Scarlett Jennings inexplicably understands the meaning in his gaze—
[You’ve never comforted me like this.]
Scarlett Jennings: ...
You, a dignified Dragon Vein, are you really comparing yourself to a system?
Ignoring their silent exchange, at the moment Scarlett Jennings’ words are heard, the Crocodile Tortoise head that only slightly emerged before now fully acts out.
With its limbs extended, the Black Mist carries it away from Scarlett Jennings, taking flight.
Despite its turtle-like appearance, Scarlett Jennings and Samuel Chalmers can inexplicably see pride in its expression.
In fact, its tone carries unmistakable pride.
"True enough, the strong always bear more than others."
Shellback indicates that it forgives Scarlett Jennings for leaving it behind.
But Scarlett Jennings’ visit isn’t solely for seeking forgiveness for leaving it in the Otherworld without notice.
