He totally lost it. All his selfcontrol just snapped. His hand shot up and he roared, You ungrateful brat! This is how you talk to your father? Looks like you learned nothing on Garbage Planet. I’ll give you the lesson your mother never could.”

He swung at Tasha, his palm slicing through the air.

He really thought his military training would let him put a girl in her place without a problem.

But then there was a heavy thump, a kind of deep, sickening sound that made everyone freeze for a second.

Elizabeth moved so fast she became a blur. She whipped out a brutal kick, landing it right in Mick’s gut.

Mick’s eyes went wide. He never expected a girl who looked so delicate to hit that hard.

Agony shot through him, and he flew backward, smashing into a metal trash bin.

He slid down, curled up around his stomach, shivering and drenched in cold sweat. He couldn’t even get a word out.

Mick!

Dad!

Mandy and Terence screamed in horror.

Mandy scrambled to Mick’s side, glaring up at Elizabeth with pure malice. Youhow dare you hit an officer! Someone call the cops! Arrest these exiles and thugs! I’ll make sure you rot in prison forever!

Hearing the words arrestand prison,Tasha shook so hard she nearly fell over. Fear took her over completely.

Tasha’s mother had been taken away just like this.

Fiona, Peter, and Selina looked terrified too. Folks from Garbage Planet always ended up on the bottom.

Elizabeth just snorted, then patted Tasha’s shoulder to calm her. There’s nothing to be afraid of. Did you forget where we live? The worst they can do is send us back to Garbage Planet. That would save us the ticket. We were defending ourselves. Nothing will. happen.

Her words made sense, and everyone’s fear started turning into hope.

Mandy was shaking with rage at their attitude. She pulled out her device and called the police, making up a story about Elizabeth and the others assaulting minors, extorting money, and attacking a military officer.

The cops showed up fasttwo men in uniform.

They walked in, spotted Mick and Mandy, and gave a familiar nod. Colonel Conte, Mrs. Conte, what happened?

Mandy cut them off, pointing at Elizabeth’s group. Officers! You got here just in time. These exiles from Garbage Planet artacked minors, tried to extort us, and assaulted my husband, a lieutenant. The proof is right here! Arrest them! Make sure they get the punishment they deserve!

Mr. Wardenfold, the heavier one, scowled and didn’t give Elizabeth’s group a chance to talk. He nodded to his partner

Unbelievable! You think you can do whatever you want on Centria Planet? Assaulting an officer too! Take them in!

Both officers pulled out handcuffs and marched over.

Elizabeth’s voice cut in, sharp and commanding. Hold on.The two officers actually stopped, startled by the force in her tone.

She stepped in front of the kids, locking eyes with Mr. Wardenfold. Is this how you handle things? You just take one side, never check the facts, never look at the scene, just arrest people? Is that what the law says?

Ward looked annoyed and stubborn. They’re hurt. That’s proof enough. You don’t put your hands on people, no matter what. Especially not an officer. You made it worse for yourselves. Enough talkcome quietly.

Elizabeth let out a cold laugh. Proof? They hit my sister with a ball on purpose, called us names, and we defended ourselves. That’s the real story. They started it. You don’t care. They insulted us. You ignore it. Because they look like they have money, and we lock like trash, we’re supposed to just take it? If we fight back, we’re criminals? This is your idea of justice? You’re not enforcing the law, you’re protecting the privileged.

Her words hit hard, and Ward’s face turned red with anger. You’re twisting things! Cooperate or we’ll use force!
