Fenix squared his shoulders, eyes sharp as a hawk, and his voice thundered with conviction. I don’t care what Starnet says, or what rumors are running wild. I don’t care how General Hewitt treats Ms. Schofield in private. None of that changes where I stand right now.

He paused, letting the words settle in the air, every syllable crisp and final. All that matters is this: under Kingdom law and military records, Elizabeth is General Cristian Hewitt’s lawfully registered wife. She’s military family. As soldiers, it’s our dutyour obligationto protect the rights and dignity of military families. That’s not up for debate, and nobody gets to trample on that. I don’t care what her background is. She gets respectperiod.

His words cut through the room like a gust of icy wind. Mick and Mandy looked like they’d just swallowed a mouthful of vinegar.

Elizabeth actually found herself pausing, giving Fenix a look she didn’t give many folks.

For the first time in ages, she saw a real soldier’s integrity.

The old man made a gruff noise, planting his cane on the floor with a heavy thud. You think we’re only standing up for Tycoon Boss because she’s married to the Hewitts? That’s your whole worldview, isn’t it? Suck up to power, step on the little guy. Shame on you. You’re in uniform, but your mind’s rotted out.

The old lady wasn’t having any of it either. She put her fists on her hips and barked out, Let me tell you something. Even if Tycoon Boss wasn’t Mrs. Hewitt, she’s one incredible woman. Those potatoes and sweet potatoes she grows? People would sell their souls for a taste. Money can’t buy what she’s got. She’s earned our respect all on her own, not because she married into some big family.”

Mandy’s face twisted up.

She couldn’t take that, not with everyone watching. That talk about potatoes and sweet potatoes sounded like utter nonsense to her.

She snapped, tone sharp as a knife. Seriously? Potatoes and sweet potatoes? You’re fighting over trash? You want some so badly, I’ll order you ten pounds from Seafarm right now. No reason to make a scene over food.

She turned, voice rising as she pointed at her son and nephew, then jabbed her finger at Mick, who was still doubled over.

My husband and son are covered in real injuries. My husband can’t even stand up straighthe’s got internal injuries for sure) Dr. Greene, you’re an expert at Central Hospital. Tell everyone the truth. We’re the victims here. We’re pressing charges. No way we’re letting this go.

Cheryllina’s face tightened.

She was a doctor, and she believed in facts, but she could see this was a mess.

She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, the two cops finished scrolling through Starnet on their devices. The headlines were all against Elizabeth, and their confidence shot right back up.

Mr. Wardenfold cleared his throat, pretending he was the most righteous man in the room. Let’s all calm down. Mrs. Conte’s nigh The facts are plain. Colonel Conte and his family have clear injuries. Ms. Schofield’s side did fight back. We have witnesses aut physical evidence. We’re just doing our jobs, treating everyone fairly. Nobody’s playing favorites.”

He glanced at Elizabeth, fake smile plastered on his face, but his eyes glinted with something nasty

A scheme flashed through his mind, and he kept his tone smooth but sty.

Ms. Schofieldsorry, I mean, Mrs. Hewitt. He stretched out those words, making sure everyone heard him. We didn’t know who you were at first. But now that we do, by regulation, we have to contact your family.

He didn’t wait for Elizabeth to answer. He tapped into the police database, pulled up the Hewittsemergency contact, and hit dial

He even put the call on speaker, so the whole room could hear.

The waiting tone echoed for a few rings, then a calm, dignified older man picked up,

This is the Hewitt Castle. Who’s calling?

It was Jeremy.

Mr. Wardenfold perked up, voice suddenly oozing with fake politeness and that sickly official air. Hello, sir. Sorry to trouble you. This is Officer Wardenfold from Centria Planet’s Miramar Police Department. We’ve got a situation involving Ms. Elizabeth Hewitt, the wife of General Cristian Hewitt

He started spinning his version of the story, making sure to mention assaulting minors, attacking an activeduty officer, and hostile attitude.

He made Mick’s family out to be the victims, and painted the police as strictly bythebook. Every word dripped with calculation.

There was a pause on the other end of the call. When Jeremy the butler finally spoke, his tone was colder than before, heavy with authority. Is that so? What’s Mrs. Hewitt’s condition right now?

Mr. Wardenfold shot a glance at Elizabeth. She looked calm as ever. He answered quickly, Ms. Schofield isrelatively stable, justnot cooperating with our investigation. What do you suggest?

Jeremy cut him off right away. His voice had a chill that told everyone he was not asking. Address.”

Mr. Wardenfold spat out the station’s full address as fast as he could.

I understand.Jeremy only said those three words before hanging up right then and there.

The dial tone droned in the room.

Mr. Wardenfold froze for a second, then a smug little smirk crept onto his lips.

He thought he’d nailed it.

The butler’s reaction screamed annoyance to him.

That was pure angerdefinitely disappointment, too.

Jeremy did not even bother asking for more details. He must’ve figured this embarrassing woman had caused the family trouble again.

That’s why he sounded so cold.

Mr. Wardenfold felt pretty pleased with himself. He puffed up a little.

To prove his theory, he pulled up the Schofieldsinfo right in front of everyone and placed another call.

This time, the Schofieldsbutler answered.

Mr. Wardenfold repeated his story, making sure to hint at Elizabeth’s bad behaviorand causing trouble.

The Schofieldsbutler said, Hold on, I’ll ask the head of the family.

A shuffle of footsteps and voices drifted from the other end.

Then, a man’s furious voice exploded over the speaker.

Benjamin sounded like he was about to destroy the phone.

What? She’s causing trouble again? That disgrace! She’s a walking embarrassment! Tell her the Schofields have no daughter liks her! She can rot out there for all I care! Don’t let her come near the Schofields ever again! I couldn’t care less if she lives or dies

The line went dead.

The two cops visibly relaxed.

If even her own family wanted nothing to do with her, what hope did Elizabeth have with the Hewitty/

Every bit of fake respect vanished from their faces, replaced by open mockery.

Mr. Wardenfold’s lips twisted into a phony grin as he waved his hand at Elizabeth and her group, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Oh, Mrs. Hewittright? This way, please. Don’t give us a hard time. Looks like you’re spending your day at the station.

He stretched out every syllable, eyes glinting with glee.

Mick and Mandy grinned like they’d already won, acting like they could see Elizabeth’s downfall in real timeabandoned by both the Hewitts and the Schofields, left with nothing.

Tasha did not even get a glance from Mick.

He had written her off the moment she and her mom got sent to Garbage Planet.

Elizabeth just gave them a little laugh, like she was watching some bad sitcom that had nothing to do with her.

She’d told Fiona and the others beforefolks from Garbage Planet were used to this. Guilty or not, it made no difference.

As for payback? Once her farm took off, she’d have plenty of ways to even the score.
