Chapter 433 Inspection Day

The man at the front was somewhere in his fifties, slightly heavyset, with the kind of practiced smile that only came from years spent navigating bureaucratic hallways.
Five people trailed behind him, carrying various inspection equipment.
Elizabeth’s gaze sharpened slightly when she took in the second group.
Deep navy uniforms. Crisp military trousers. Polished boots. Standard Fifth Military issue.
Six of them, every one standing straight as a pillar, eyes sharp and cutting.
The man leading them wore a silver–grey uniform that stood out sharply against that navy.
He was somewhere in his early thirties, his features clean and composed, his expression carrying a natural severity that looked like it had been there since birth.
His uniform sat on him the way armor sits on a seasoned warrior, perfectly fitted, completely naturai, and every step he took moved with the measured, deliberate rhythm that marked career military personnel.
Deon Barron.
Elizabeth let the name settle quietly in her mind.
Runner–up in last year’s military championship. Lost to Cristian.
Both groups approached, and Elizabeth stepped forward to meet them with an appropriately warm smile.
“Welcome, everyone. We’re glad to have you at the farm.” She offered a small, courteous nod. “I’m Elizabeth Schofield, the farm’s owner and director.”
The stocky middle–aged man immediately stepped forward, his smile enormous, hand already extended. “Ms. Schofield, it’s such a pleasure! I’ve heard so much about you. I’m Dwayne McGee, the newly appointed Director of the Interstellar Route Authority.”
Newly appointed Director.
Something shifted in Elizabeth’s chest, though nothing showed on her face. She shook his hand, “Mr. McGee, the pleasure is mine. Thank you for making the trip.”
“Not at all, not at all!” Dwayne waved her off enthusiastically, looking like he might overflow with cheerfulness. “Tycoon Farm’s reputation precedes it considerably. I’ve been wanting to see it for myself for a long time. I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity. today, Ms. Schofield!”
Elizabeth listened to the string of compliments and felt a quiet flicker of amusement.
It seemed the previous director’s very public lesson had made a lasting impression on this new one.
“You’re far too generous, Mr. McGee.” She kept her smile easy. “We’re a simple operation, so please bear with us.”
“Simple?” Dwayne shook his head with vigor. “Ms. Schofield, if this farm is simple, then there aren’t many impressive operations left in the entire Kingdom! I read through the data on the way here, and the scale of it, the output, it’s genuinely remarkable?
Chapter 433 Inspection Day
The Interstellar Route Authority personnel behind him nodded along with matching expressions of enthusiasm.
Elizabeth exchanged a few more pleasantries before letting her gaze drift to the grobo in military dress standing nearby.
Deon hadn’t said a word since he stepped off the ship.

His gaze moved in a measured sweep across the nine people standing betred Elizabeth, then across the fields and the ships in the distance, before finally settling on Elizabeth’s face.
It paused there for just a fraction of a second.
Elizabeth caught that pause and felt a faint internal stir, though nothing touched her expression.
“And this would be…” she asked, already knowing the answer.
Dwayne jumped in helpfully. “Oh, right. This is Colonel Deon Barron of the Fifth Military. The armed inspection portion of the evaluation is under Colonel Barron’s command.”
Deon stepped forward and gave Elizabeth a single, precise nod. It was textbook perfect.
“Ms. Schofield. I’ve heard a great deal about you.”
His voice was low and even, carrying no discernible feeling behind the words.
Elizabeth studied his face, and she noticed something she hadn’t quite caught before. His gaze then was different from what it had been a moment ago. The brief sweep had been indifferent, but this was different. He held her face for just a beat longer than courtesy required, and something flickered at the back of his eyes.
Surprise?
And something that might have been interest?
Elizabeth let out a quiet internal laugh and kept her smile exactly where it was.
“The pleasure is mine, Colonel Barron. The Fifth Military’s reputation is one I’ve admired for quite some time.”
Her tone was bright and conversational, the words landing like ordinary pleasantries, but the emphasis on “quite some time” carried just the faintest extra weight.
The corner of Deon’s brow shifted, barely perceptibly.
He didn’t respond, just gave another single nod and stepped back, his expression returning to its original cool composure.
didn’t press it. She turned back to Dwayne. “Mr. McGee, Colonel Barron, shall we head inside? We’ve got refreshments
ely, yes!” Dwayne agreed immediately.
