Chapter 581 The Gap

Chapter 581 The Gap

“Let’s go home. I’ll make scrambled eggs for you guys,” Melanie said.

Vance thought for a second. “Nah, let’s make egg custard instead. Egg custard for breakfast sounds perfect.”

Melanie nodded. “Okay, then egg custard it is.”

Behind them, the Seafarm Supermarket sign still shone in the sunlight, but fewer and fewer people were going in or out.

In the distance, over at Mercury Plaza, the line kept getting longer as more people continued to gather

Inside the meeting room at the Seafarm Supermarket building.

The marketing manager, Charlie Morrison, sat at the head of the long table. In his hand was the report that had just come in from Mercury Plaza. His expression darkened.

He had been silent for a long time. The dozen people in the room didn’t dare make a sound. The only noise was the steady hum of the air conditioner overhead.

“Can someone tell me what exactly is going on?” Charlie finally said. His voice wasn’t loud, but every word hit like ice.

He slammed the report onto the table. The pages scattered across the tabletop, and a few photos slipped out.

They showed the endless line at Mercury Plaza, the pale green Cluckoo Eggs filling the display refrigerator, and the back of a middle-aged man carrying two boxes of eggs as he walked past the entrance to the Seafarm Supermarket.

The man was wearing a bright yellow jacket, and his grin was almost painful to look at.

Samuel Vaughan, a marketing planner, was the first to stand.

He was in his early forties, dressed in a suit with his hair neatly combed. But now, beads of sweat covered his forehead, and his face was tight with tension.

‘Mr. Morrison, this is the situation at Mercury Plaza this morning. Tycoon Farm officially started selling Cluckoo Eggs today. The imit is ten eggs per customer, and the price is… thirty percent higher than ours.”

‘Thirty percent higher, and people are still buying them?” Sharon Wright, the sales director sitting across from Samuel, couldn’t help asking. Her voice was full of disbelief.

She was a capable middle-aged woman who had worked at Seafarm Group for fifteen years. She had seen all kinds of crises, but the data from this morning had left her completely stunned.

Samuel let out a bitter smile.

‘The price isn’t the issue. It’s the quality. Compared to theirs, our eggs… never mind. Don’t take my word. See for yourselves.

The meeting room fell silent. Charlie frowned slightly, his eyes sweeping across everyone at the table.

At some point, two plates of boiled eggs had been placed on the table.

One was on a white plate labeled Seafarm Group.

The other was on a pale green plate labeled Tycoon Farm.

Both eggs had already been peeled. They lay there smooth and clean, but the difference was obvious at a glance.

Seafarm Group’s egg had a dull, grayish-white color with a rough surface, if you leaned in close, you could catch a faint fishy smel

The Tycoon Farm egg was a pure, porcelain-like white, smooth and delicate, giving off a fresh, grain-like aroma.

Samuel gestured toward the plates. “Go ahead.”

Everyone stood up and took small bites.

Sharon picked up the Seafarm Group egg first.

The moment she took a bite, her brows tightened.

The egg white was tough and dry. The yolk was dull and crumbly. Even after she swallowed, the fishy taste lingered in her mouth.

This is exactly why she didn’t like eating eggs.

She forced herself to swallow it before reaching for the Tycoon Farm egg,

This time, her expression changed.

The egg white was soft and smooth, while the yolk was rich, practically melting in her mouth with a natural sweetness. There was no fishy taste at all.

She froze for a second, then picked up another piece of the Seafarm Group egg to compare. This time, she almost spat it out.

Watching her reaction, Samuel’s bitter smile grew even wider.

“See the difference now? That’s the gap we’re dealing with.”

Jose Borden tasted both eggs as well.

He adjusted his glasses before speaking with difficulty. “These Tycoon Farm eggs… are they really laid by the Cluckoo Chickens they raise?”

“Most likely,” Samuel said with a nod.

“Wild mutant Cluckoo Chickens. Their eggs and meat both have a strong fishy smell, a rough texture, and they’re very hard to

handle.

“But Tycoon Farm must have improved them during the breeding process. From what we’ve learned, they feed the chickens natural fruits, vegetables, and grains grown on the farm. That’s why there’s no fishy taste at all. They’re delicious even without any seasoning.”

The meeting room fell silent again.

Charlie didn’t taste either egg.

He simply stared at the two plates. He looked at the obvious color difference, then at the expressions on everyone’s faces-the look

that said we all knew this already, but no one dared to say it.

He said slowly, “So, this is what we waited so long for?”

No one dared answer.

Jose lowered his head and spoke quietly, “It’s unbelievable. We’ve tried everything, but we still can’t figure out what Tycoon Farm is doing. It was one thing when their fruits and vegetables tasted better than ours. But now they can even raise mutant beasts and raise them this well… It just doesn’t add up.”

“Exactly,” Sharon couldn’t help adding. “We have spent decades building up our technology. We have dozens of breeding planets and thousands of specialists. And we’re losing to a little farm that hasn’t even been open for two years?”
