Chapter 1714: But It Did Work

Bemused, the Elder held out his hand for Remi to hand him one of her experimental progress enhancing pills.

The Elder stared at it for a second, trying to analyze it, then gave up.

"The system tells me that it’s a high-grade body forging pill. What’s it supposed to do?"

{That sounds right. It’s supposed to make you more durable. Improved health pool? More durable body? It depends on how your system interacts with it, I think.}

The Elder shrugged and popped it into his mouth, while Remi and Elder Socrate both took out their notepads.

Dana watched curiously as the two Alchemists settled into their element, carefully dissecting every change in the flow of energy through the Elder. At least, until he grunted in pain, and his body began to turn red.

"Is it supposed to do that?" One of the others asked.

{Probably. It’s making his body more durable, so there should be some change.} Remi agreed.

"It looks like it hurts."

{You’re not wrong. But it is working.}

There was a saying "no pain, no gain" but this seemed like it was just deliberately painful.

Then, his skin settled back to its normal light-brown tone, and the Elder coughed into a napkin, spitting up a blob of something black that Elder Socrate quickly confiscated from him for research.

Knowing what impurities were expelled was important because it told them what to adjust in the pill to optimize the output.

"What does the System say?" Socrate asked.

"A five percent increase in maximum health that appears to be perfect, and a thirty-minute weakness debuff."

Remi nodded, and activated both a Healing Totem and a Cleansing Totem under the table.

The debuff faded, and the Elder smiled.

"The change is still there, and I don’t see any spell effects on myself, so it should be permanent."

Elder Socrate high-fived Remi, who was looking exceptionally smug about their victory.

"Alright, we know what it does now, but if it’s like the recipe that it was based on, it only works once. So, the demand won’t be exceptionally high. I am certain that most of the warrior types are going to want it, and likely some of the mages as well, since they need all the health they can get.

But five percent health isn’t a priority for most of the Clan, and the ingredients are exceptionally expensive." Socrate explained.

"That is a shame. How expensive are we talking?"

"It would sell for somewhere around fifteen Clan Credits a pill."
