Everyone took their starting positions, and Lala called the start to the match.
Assuming that he had the upper hand, Shade immediately darted off to rescue his Elf, only to find that the blood knight had higher burst speed than he did, and her strong legs put her in front of him before he had even launched.
The Moor Cat dodged a brutal blow with a training sword, and the obsession demon swayed to the side, avoiding three spells and an arrow all at the same time.
Then, she brought out two blunt daggers, and flickered into combat, her movements so smooth that the mages didn’t even realize they were in trouble until they saw her reappear. Fortunately, Anilla had faster reflexes, and her short sword came up to block the first strike, only to find herself flying backwards through the air as the demon kicked her.
Not particularly hard, but with a shove to send her flying.
The mages pelted the demon with spells, but she was still moving, and most of the magic was missing its target. Then, their druid fell, and the healer was gone from the group.
Every kid in the New Home Academy knew that trick.
Take out the healer first, and you’re free to deal with the others whenever you want. It was the basics of the basics, but without Anilla there to defend her, there was nothing the mages could do.
They didn’t know a barrier spell that would stop the attack, and the demon was too fast for them to lock her down or eliminate her so quickly.
The blades flashed again, and both mages fell, while Shade growled in frustration as he failed to get past Lala.
"Halt. Everyone back to their positions. Take a short break, get a drink, and we will go over what went wrong," Lala insisted.
"What went wrong? Did anything go right?" Anilla grumbled as she picked herself up out of the dirt.
She had been winded by the kick, and in the few seconds it had taken her to get her breath, the fight was already over. Their whole defensive formation had fallen apart, and the demon hadn’t even used a skill, just raw speed.
The demon helped the others back to their feet, then brushed them off with a soft broom.
"Alright, I will start while you get a drink and calm your nerves. First off, your formation was decent, not great but acceptable.
The problem was what you did after that.
When Anilla moved to engage, the mages didn’t back away, so she had nowhere left to dodge my attacks. You need to give the agility type fighters room. Because she didn’t have room to fight properly, and was instead focused on defending you, she was easy to eliminate.
Then, instead of flanking the healer, you placed yourselves between me and her.
