The next morning Jessica woke up to the realization that someone was laying behind her. Not yet completely awake, she squirmed and earned herself a growl that vibrated all through her body. The mist of sleep receded from her mind and in its wake, shivers of pleasure trailed down her spine upon recalling who lay with her.
Jessica closed her eyes and gave herself over to the sensations coursing through her. As the night before, she allowed Nick to envelope her in a cloud of desire. His hands left a trail of fire everywhere he touched her and only his lips brought cool relief.
She blocked out everything but his touch. Until she felt a sudden sharp pain at the base of her neck and her eyes flew open.
Instinctive reaction had her raising her knee, too fast for him to block it.
He released her neck and she felt the air rush out of his lungs. Jessica shoved him off of her and he went without a fight, groaning and holding himself. Curled up into the fetal position, he closed his eyes and worked on regaining his breath.
Taking advantage of his distraction she jumped out of bed and reached for her knives. She could feel a drop of blood trail down her back from her wound. His bite drew blood and Jessica wondered, with a sick feeling in her stomach, what happened next.
These last months, it'd been drilled into her that she had to guard her secret. Now even more than before since she'd refused to take another dose of the serum.
Trying not to panic, she took a deep breath. If her secret was revealed, she'd cross that bridge when she came to it. Nick's sudden stillness warned her that for now she had more pressing matters to deal with.
Nick crouched on the bed, glared at her and she raised her chin, stood up straight and glared back. Almost too fast to track him, he jumped off the bed and landed on the floor a couple of feet from her.
Jessica took a step back and switched her knives open. Like a predator and his pray, he followed her step by step. He looked angry-furious really.
"That was a cheap shot. So you want to play dirty?"
She saw the gleam in his eyes and with her own feral smile, accepted the challenge. He crossed the distance between the in the blink of an eye. But Jessica was just as fast. And unlike the day before, she didn't have to worry about pulling her punches.
She crouched and swiped his feet from underneath him, toppling him to the floor. He flipped back on to his feet and smiled at her.
Upon her accusation, his eyes flew wide open, and he grew still and he sniffed the air the way she'd seen Axel do it the day before.
"Stop with the funny stuff! Just my luck, I swear all of you belong in the funny farm. My bodyguard goes off his rocker." Nick growled at the mention of Shane but it only drew her ire towards him. "And you! You show up out of nowhere, cause all these problems then you send your friends to lock me up in my bathroom and...you bit me!"
Nick pulled her shirt down and stared at her wound for a second before getting off her and throwing himself back on the bed and groaning.
Jessica got up and picked up her knives. Shaking her head she turned to go to her restroom to clean up her neck when the next thing she heard was the click of the door; Jessica turned back around to find she was alone in her room. Closing her knives and stashing them in her back pockets, she went after him. Opening the door she almost slammed into a breathing wall.
It was Axel.
"Where is he?" she asked him.
