"Grandma... are you really my grandma?"
Seraphina collapsed onto the floor in tears. With a single teardrop clinging to her innocent, doe-like eyes, she gazed at Penelope in disbelief and gently bit her lip.
Her excitement and surprise were genuine, but the performance was heavily laced with calculated acting.
Even if they truly were family, having never met the woman, Seraphina felt zero familial affection for her.
What she did feel was an intense craving for the massive Prescott empire backing the old woman.
Seeing Seraphina's pitiful state, Penelope was overcome with emotion.
"I know you're my granddaughter!" she declared with absolute certainty. "For years, I've prayed faithfully and donated to endless charities, begging God to bring you back to me!
"Heaven must have heard my prayers, orchestrating for you to bump into me today! This is destiny reuniting us!"
Seeing Penelope's unshakeable conviction, Quinn's eyes flickered as a heavy feeling sank into her stomach.
She hurried forward, personally helping Seraphina to her feet with a bright, sycophantic smile.
"This is absolutely wonderful news! To think the gathering I organized would lead to you two reuniting. It's truly amazing!
"This must be destiny at work. Not only did Mrs. Prescott find her long-lost granddaughter, but I also discovered a beautiful, talented young star for the second female lead in my new show!"
Seraphina allowed Quinn to pull her up.
Though she kept a delighted smile on her face, the warmth in her eyes turned icy.
Quinn was way too good at playing the wind.
Moments ago, she was ready to throw Seraphina out onto the street without a second thought. But now that she knew Seraphina was Penelope's granddaughter, she was desperate to suck up to her.
Slowly dropping her smile, Seraphina brushed Quinn's hands away. She frowned and placed a gentle hand on Penelope's shoulder.
"I finally found my grandma, but I ended up hurting her. The role doesn't matter anymore.
"I just want to get Grandma to the hospital right away and make sure she isn't badly injured..."
