"How... how have you been lately?"
Jude was so nervous his mind went completely blank. It took him nearly a full minute to choke out the question.
Mika found the situation utterly bizarre. Her long eyelashes fluttered.
"I've been fine. Why?"
"I've been doing a lot of thinking lately..." Having organized his thoughts, he locked a determined gaze onto her.
"I was completely in the wrong before, and I still owe you a formal apology. Mika, I'm sorry."
"Oh, it's fine." She flashed an awkward but polite smile. "It's all in the past. Don't worry about it."
The entire ordeal had merely been a trap she set using him.
Now that the trap had sprung, she had long since put the matter out of her mind. She hadn't expected him to still be agonizing over it.
Sometimes, the cruelest emotion wasn't hatred, but total indifference.
Right now, Mika felt nothing but absolute, tranquil indifference toward Jude.
But Jude clearly misinterpreted her tone. He abruptly grabbed her wrist, his pupils trembling with excitement, a suppressible joy tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"Really? Do you really mean that?"
His large hands—capable of gripping a basketball with ease—clamped down on her slender wrist like an iron shackle.
"I've thought about this a lot. I just didn't understand my own heart before. I superficially fell for Seraphina because of her looks, but lately, you're the only one on my mind.
It wasn't until I lost you that I realized everything you did for me. I finally see how cruelly I betrayed you. Mika, I genuinely have feelings for you now. You still like me too, don't you?"
He gripped her wrist tightly, his emotions spiraling out of control. His hold was beginning to hurt her.
