Mika didn't have time to decipher what Lucas was thinking right now.
Truth be told, even at a hundred and sixty-five pounds, hauling the tall, heavily muscled Lucas on her back was exhausting.
Thankfully, when Jude transferred her three hundred bucks last time, bringing her system points to five thousand, she hadn't rushed to redeem them to lose ten pounds.
Otherwise, she really wouldn't have been able to carry Lucas down the mountain today.
However, Mika, who had planned this entirely, gritted her teeth and managed to carry Lucas all the way back to the spot where she had separated from Jude earlier.
Staring at the three backpacks stacked on the ground, Mika stopped in her tracks, looking deeply conflicted.
"What's wrong?" Lucas asked, following her gaze to the three bags when he realized she wasn't moving.
"My boyfriend's and best friend's bags are here. If we just leave them, won't someone steal them..."
She spoke with a timid, worried tone.
She has a boyfriend?
Lucas froze for a moment upon hearing this.
Having been schemed against by far too many girls trying to get close to him, Lucas had secretly harbored a lingering suspicion that Mika might have orchestrated his crash.
Otherwise, why would she just happen to be right where he fell?
But seeing her mention a boyfriend so naturally, Lucas finally let his guard down completely.
"You didn't come up the mountain alone?" He frowned, suddenly sensing something off.
"Where are they, then? Why did they leave all their bags with you?"
Hearing this, Mika bit her lip, a flicker of hurt crossing her features.
But quickly, she forced a strained smile. "My best friend sprained her ankle, so my boyfriend carried her down the mountain.
There wasn't any other way. They left the bags with me and told me to catch a cab back to campus by myself...
But three bags are a bit hard to carry. I was trying to find a branch in the woods to help balance them, and that's when I found you."
Listening to Mika's explanation, a flash of pity crossed Lucas's face.
