The Girl They Ignored Returned as the Woman Seven Men Would Die For novel Chapter 33

Juniper General Hospital.

Quincy and the others finished their visit with Lucas and soon headed back to campus.

Half an hour later, Lucas lay bored in his hospital bed, eyes closed in a light doze, when two sharp knocks sounded at the door.

His eyes snapped open, a flicker of anticipation crossing his gaze—an emotion he didn't even notice himself.

"Come in."

The door opened, but the person who walked in was a young man in a crisp tailored suit.

He scanned the modest hospital room, his expression stiffening visibly.

"Lucas, how can you be staying in such a basic room! Who arranged this? I'll speak to the hospital director immediately and get you moved to a VIP suite!"

The man was Xavier Ashford, the chief assistant to Lucas's father.

Xavier was usually the one dispatched to clean up any messes Lucas made.

"Stop right there," Lucas ordered, a flash of irritation in his eyes. "Don't cause a scene."

Xavier paused, looking conflicted. "How can you properly recover in a place like this? If your parents find out, they'll blame me..."

"They know about the accident?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, a hint of unease breaking his stoic facade.

"Yes. They are very worried about you, which is why they sent me to check in."

Xavier offered a respectful smile. "I reviewed your charts with the doctor. Thank goodness you were brought in on time. You're out of danger."

"Worried about me?"

Lucas let out a harsh scoff. "So worried that they couldn't even bother to come see me themselves?"

Xavier lowered his head awkwardly. "Your parents are very busy people..."

Lucas's hands, resting on the blanket, subconsciously balled into fists, a wave of sheer exhaustion washing over his dark eyes.

Busy, busy, busy.

It was always the same excuse.

For as long as he could remember, he had seen more of the polite but distant nannies than his own parents.

The Lancaster dynasty was indeed powerful, but the price of that power was endless itineraries for its leaders.
