While Mika was lost in her thoughts, Damaris had already marched right up to her.
Noticing Mika's noticeably thinner frame, Damaris paused for a second before fiercely pinching Mika's arm.
"You sounded pretty tough on the phone, didn't you? What's the matter, didn't think your mother could track you down?!"
Damaris sneered triumphantly, her thin, blue-black eyebrows shooting up.
Seeing this middle-aged woman barge in like a hurricane left many of the guests stunned into silence.
But once they processed that this was Mika's mother, quite a few people took in Damaris's outrageously gaudy outfit and had to lower their heads to hide their snickering.
Damaris was still an attractive older woman and clearly put effort into maintaining her looks.
But due to her limited social circles, the men she dated post-divorce were mostly just guys she met at mahjong tables or cheap karaoke bars.
Even if they were willing to spend money on her, their resources were severely limited.
Damaris's standard of maintenance couldn't even begin to compare to the mothers of these wealthy heirs, who used elite luxury creams, underwent premium cosmetic procedures, and casually dropped hundreds of thousands at high-end salons.
So, to the people in this room, even if Damaris didn't look destitute, she radiated the cheap glamour of a karaoke bar madam, reeking of vulgar perfume and powder.
Mika felt a wave of embarrassment. Rubbing her arm, she discreetly slipped the necklace Jude had given her straight into Damaris's palm, lowering her voice.
"Mom... there are a lot of people here!"
Feeling the cold, heavy weight of the jewelry, Damaris froze, a sudden spark of absolute delight lighting up her eyes.
She glanced up, finally taking in the sheer opulence of the villa's interior. Her eyes swept over the impeccably dressed young men and women at the table, and she seemed to register a fleeting second of awkwardness.
But she refused to show any weakness. She let out a proud huff and let go of Mika. "We'll settle this when we get home."
By now, Quincy, as the host, had recovered from his shock.
His eyes landed on the uninvited guest. Without a single trace of displeasure on his face, he stood up with perfect grace and offered a warm smile. "Hello, Mrs. Charles. You must be Mika's mother? Since you're here, why don't you have a seat and join us for dinner?"
Damaris locked her eyes onto Quincy.
