You Got Attacked?
***Ella***
We hurry around the corner of the road and swiftly walk up the row of terraces until we get to the front gate of my family home.
“Wait, how did you manage to talk to me inside my head?” I ask before we get to the front door, having thought about that on the way back here, among many other things.
“It’s just a form of telepathy,” he replies casually.
“Jeez, is there anything you can’t do?” I ask. He shrugs a little in response. Evidently not.
“Anyway… Will. My parents know about everything. I found out the other day that they work for The General Council…and that I was adopted. They’re human, from a magical background, and they rescued me from my mother after she was murdered,” I inform him rather bluntly as I take my key out the pocket of my running leggings, opening the front door.
“That’s a lot of information to get at once,” Will mutters as he follows me indoors.
I take my trainers off, motioning for Will to follow me as I go up into the kitchen.
“Mum,” I exclaim, relief filling me as we enter, seeing the person who has always made me feel
safe.
“Yes, sweetheart?” Mum says, turning around from the oven to see Will and I enter the kitchen. She jumps a little in shock and almost drops her baking tray, before she sets it down on the stove top. She turns back around and looks at Will with intrigue.
“Oh my… Ella, is this him?” she asks me excitedly, her eyes taking all of Will in from top to bottom. I raise my eyebrows in surprise as Will answers for me, before I can.
“I am not Austin,” he says, sounding sombre. I turn to look at him in surprise, wondering how he knew who Mum was referring to, as I’d never even mentioned Austin’s name to him before.
I collect myself, shaking my head in response.
“No, Mum, this is my friend from school who I told you about earlier, this is Will,” I say a little awkwardly, noticing the slight wince on Will’s face at the word ‘friend’.
“Pleased to meet you; do you live near here, Will?” Mum asks, thankfully not making it obvious that
she’d heard a lot about Will already.
“No ma’am, I come from the Lake District,” he says calmly and politely.

“Gosh, you’re a little far from home then?” she says, looking confused, “it’s Christmas, shouldn’t you be with your family?”
It’s now Will’s turn to look awkward. He puts his hands into his jeans pockets and looks down to
the floor.
“Mum, he’s from one of the bigger packs, one called Dalston Lake,” I explain. She raises her
eyebrows at the mention of this.
“Dalston Lake huh? Interesting, well you must know the Leighton-Carter family. I’ve met your alpha, Sebastian, a number of times at work. Great man,” she says, taking another baking tray out of the
oven.
“Yes, you could say that,” Will smirk, walking forwards and presenting his hand, “I’m Will Leighton-Ca rter and I’m very pleased to meet you Mrs Reva.”
Mum looks very surprised and gives me a quick glance as if to ask why I hadn’t mentioned that fact earlier. I purse my lips and shrug.
“Oh goodness, you’re one of Sebastian’s sons…although that doesn’t explain what you are doing so far from home,” she says, shaking his hand.
“It’s a long story that I would rather not get into, if you don’t mind,” he mutters once again.
“Well, would you like to stay for dinner?” Mum offers.
Will looks momentarily surprised by this offer but he soon nods appreciatively.
“That would be…really lovely, thank you Mrs Reva,” he says, nodding and giving her his charming smile. Mum smiles back in a bashful way,
“Oh please, close friends of Ella’s can call me Lara,” she says with a warm smile. He goes to take a seat at the table and my Mum flashes me a particular look as if to say ‘he is a bit of alright.
“Okay, well I’m going to go change, my clothes are soaking wet from where I fell over in the snow,” I say awkwardly, walking out the room and running up the stairs to my bedroom. I hastily pull on some jeans and a plain top and then slip back downstairs.
When I get back down to the kitchen, dad has appeared and is being introduced to Will by my
Mum.
“Ella, why is this young man here?” Dad asks curtly as I enter the kitchen.
“Well, umm…” I begin with a frown, wondering how to tell them without worrying them. One thing I didn’t ever do was lie to my parents, or to anyone, really.
“Ella just got attacked by three rogue Lycans in Regents Park. I intervened, although Ella was doing

quite well on her own, ” Will interjects. My mum drops her spatula onto the floor.

“You got ATTACKED? HERE?!” Mum cries, dropping into a chair at the table and putting her face in her hands.
“Honey, are you okay?” dad says, getting up and putting his hands on my shoulders, looking at me earnestly as if expecting to see cuts or something.
“Well, what Will said…sums it up, really. Aside from the fact I was not doing well at all. Had he not saved me, I probably would have been killed,” I admit quietly, shooting Will a little smile, “thank you,
Will.”
His purple eyes flash brightly for a moment before he speaks.
“I will only ever protect you, Ella.”
I look into his eyes, seeing pain there…pain that I know I put there. I feel another pang of guilt over how things had gone down in the greenhouse. He shoots me a strange look and I wonder if he is reading my aura, right now.
“Thank you Will, for being there to protect Ella,” mum said earnestly as dad claps Will appreciatively
on the shoulder.
We eat dinner, during which my parents ask Will all sorts of questions about himself and the pack
he comes from.
“So, despite belonging to Dalston Lake, you just happened to be here in London?” my Dad suddenly asks skeptically. Will wipes his mouth on his napkin and sighs.
“I actually came here specifically to keep an eye on Ella. I knew she’d be weaker in the city and apparently my intuition really wasn’t far off. Not everyone out there has honourable intentions. She no longer has the talisman hiding her from nefarious individuals,” he says coldly, staring down at his plate.
“Do you need a lift to the train station?”
“No sir, I am staying in a hostel nearby. My family are away for Christmas and New year so…that’s where I’ll be,” Will says, standing up from the table. My mum looked appalled all of a sudden.
“Well that won’t do. I’m not having the man who saved our daughter spending Christmas on his
own! You will join us.”
“That’s a lovely idea actually. More the merrier,” dad suddenly says. Will genuinely looked surprised and humbled by my parents offer.
“That would be…well…that would be…so kind of you. I’d love to,” he says awkwardly. I knew Will

had a very strained relationship with his own family so I can see how much this simple gesture
means to him.
“The bigger sofa in the living room doubles as a sofa bed. You can’t stay in a hostel.”
Later, I give Will a tour of the house, stopping in my bedroom on the top floor. I needed to talk to
him and I didn’t want my parents listening to this particular conversation.
I shut the door and lean against it.
“Will, I really need to apologise for-” I begin, but he put his hand up to stop me.
“Ella, you don’t need to apologise. I know. I know what happened in the greenhouse and what’s been happening to you for a while. You’re mate bonded…to Austin,” he sighs.
“How do you know that?” I ask in surprise, before shaking my head stupidly, “why am I even asking…you can read me and everyone else around you like a book.”
He chuckles a little at my comment.
“It was in your aura, but you were also clearly in acute pain after we kissed…not something that tends to happen. After I left the greenhouse I went through to the atrium and the Landry’s were leaving. I had a gut feeling. I figured out some time ago that you had some complicated feelings towards him, but it was none of my business and you didn’t want to talk about it, so I never brought it up. I decided to look at his aura and I saw the same thing I’d seen in yours; a matching, incomplet e mate bond,” he says rather solemnly as he plays with a few trinkets on my window ledge. I am amazed by how intuitive he’d been, not that I should be surprised. Will was very good at reading
people; me in particular.
“Will, I didn’t know what was happening until after you left the greenhouse. My parents told me the next day that having a mate bond with Austin is why my necklace stopped working. I had no idea…but it actually makes sense of a number of things,” I admit, sitting down on the edge of my bed, “I don’t even know if he feels the same. He alluded to feeling something when he was with me
in the medical bay…but…who knows.”
Will laughs and sits down next to me.
“Ella, if you feel anything, trust me- HE feels it all and more. I’m amazed he’s not done anything about it,” Will sighs, “I would’ve. In a heartbeat.”
He says his last few words a little quieter, but he knows I can hear him. My heart falters as he openly admit how he feels.
“I just don’t know how to proceed from here. I’ve been avoiding him for weeks because I didn’t
