The Golden Lycans (Ella) novel Chapter 74

It’s For Her

Make a long shower. I apparently had grown a couple more inches since midnight as my head is now touching the waterfall shower head above me. I am annoyingly thankful now, that my dad had brought a tailor in. I guess he knew, he’d been through this before.

I lean against the side of the shower with my eyes shut, thinking about how I would tell Ella who she was to me. It had been so long since I’d spoken to her, I had no idea how it’d go.

Would she accept me?

Would she cry and deny herself again?

Would she reject me?

Thinking about Ella is driving me a little crazy right now-no, more than that. It’s unravelling me. Especially with my alpha blood now fully awakened, thrumming through every inch of me like wildfire, awakening instincts I’ve spent years keeping chained up tight.

It’s not just desire-it’s the awakened need. Fierce, relentless, primal. It’s consuming me…I have never wanted time to go faster than I have today.

The shower stream beats down against my shoulders, scalding and relentless, but it’s not enough to quiet the ache that coils low in my stomach, demanding release. My jaw clenches as I shut my eyes and give in, just for a moment, letting my hand drift lower beneath the steady drum of the water. I brace my other hand against the tiled wall, my breath coming harder now, heart pounding out a furious rhythm in my chest that matches the movement of my hand.

I let my memories of her take over, let it carry me through the heat building inside me.

A rough sound escapes my throat, low and guttural, echoing off the tiles. The release hits hard, stealing the air from my lungs, and for a moment, all I can do is lean into the steam, panting, letting the water wash away the evidence of how badly I want her-how badly I need her.

But it doesn’t help.

I finish up my shower, the last of the steam still curling in the air as I towel off quickly and wrap the fabric around my waist. The bathroom mirror is fogged, my reflection a hazy outline. I run a hand through my damp hair, exhaling slowly.

I step out into the main room, still towelling at the back of my neck, and freeze mid-step.

Mum’s sitting on the sofa at the far end of the room, legs crossed, hands folded neatly in her lap. She looks serene-too serene, considering I’ve just stepped out practically naked.

My heart lurches.

Goddess, I hope she didn’t hear what I’d just been doing in the shower…

I’m sure she did. But I’m sure she’s heard worse… Atlast comments.

“I-Mum? What are you doing here? You should be getting ready,” I say, clearing my throat as I walk over, suddenly aware of how damp I am-and how little I’m wearing.

She stands and gives me a gentle hug, ignoring my awkward posture. I hug her back, damp skin

and all.

“I wanted to give you this,” she says, holding out a slim jewellery box.

“Your birthday gift.”

I take it from her with slightly wet hands, flipping open the lid.

Inside is a necklace-simple, masculine, with a subtle silver chain and a dark, oval stone set at the centre. I run my thumb over it slowly. The weight of it in my palm feels grounding.

“This is… really thoughtful. Thank you, Mum. I love it,” I say genuinely, fastening the clasp and letting it settle at my collarbone. It sits perfectly.

She smiles but doesn’t say anything at first. Her gaze lingers on me-assessing, affectionate, and definitely amused by my current half-naked state.

I clear my throat and reach for the towel at my neck.

Then she speaks again.

“I also have something else for you.”

She pulls out a second box-smaller, more elegant.

I raise a brow as I take it, curious. I open it slowly.

Inside lies a different kind of jewellery-more delicate, clearly crafted for a woman- and most

definitely for one woman in particular…

My breath catches-she knows?

“It’s for her,” Mum says softly, her voice laced with meaning.

I stare at the necklace, feeling a rush of heat and pressure in my chest. My hand tightens slightly

around the box.

“How did you…?”

She places her hand gently on my forearm.

“A mother knows, Austin. Just like you know.”

She leans in, voice lower now, her eyes locking onto mine. “And just like she knows.”

I swallow hard, my throat dry. My heart hammers.

“She’s not,” I start, struggling for the words, “dad is going to lose it when he finds out my mate isn’t Lycan.

I drop onto the sofa beside her, towel still firmly in place, but forgotten now in the rush of thoughts

and dread and hope colliding in my head.

Mum doesn’t flinch. She rests a hand on my shoulder and squeezes it.

“He’s hard on you, yes,” she says gently, “but you may be surprised by what your father can manage. Underneath all that tradition and stubbornness… he loves you.”

I hesitate.

“She’s not even human, Mum,” I murmur, voice barely audible, “she’s… something else.”

Mum smiles, unwavering.

“Whatever she is, the goddess herself chose her for you. And Austin, more than anything, we want you to be happy. That’s all we’ve ever wanted.”

I nod slowly, pressing a palm to the centre of my chest where the crescent moon marking lies faint but sure. “We’ve barely spoken since our date,” I admit, “and now I’m meant to just… walk into tonight like everything’s fine? I don’t know how this ends well.”

She tilts her head.

“A bond is a bond, Austin. You don’t need to plan it. Just trust it. Let it guide you. You’ll see-it’ll

come naturally.”

She rises with a graceful smile, brushing her hands together.

“Right. I’d better get ready. The tailor dropped off your suit-it’s been pressed and waiting.” She gestures to the bag hanging neatly on the door.

“Thanks, Mum,” I say as I rise to my feet and reach for my deodorant, “I hope you enjoy yourself

tonight.”

“Oh, I know I will,” she grins, turning back at the door, “my son-the future leader of our proud pack -has turned eighteen. Tonight, he goes to meet his beautiful mate. I am so unbelievably proud of you, Austin. You are everything I ever hoped for… and so much more.”
