Yes Princess, Suck it Up
Austin***
It is four o’clock in the morning when Ollie finally returns to our room.
“How are you doing?” I ask into the darkness.

“Well, no matter how many times people tell you what to expect…” he begins before making a
shocked expression. I chuckle.
“Yeah, it’s intense, right?” I agree. He nods strongly.
“Yeah. Now I just feel utterly exhausted, Artemis went toally wild,” he sighs.
“Well, rest up. I know you didn’t want to do much today but I’ll be taking you down to the pub later
for a legal whiskey.”
“Sounds good,” Ollie yawns, turning over and snoring immediately.
***Ella***
It is just after breakfast on Saturday and I am sat cross legged on the newly cleaned flagstones of the greenhouse, staring silently at the seven trunked Wisteria tree that towered up to the ceiling.
I continue to stare at it, occasionally whispering to myself about potential ways I could figure out
the purpose of it.
I shut my eyes again, honing my senses to bring up what was basically a map of the life force of the tree that I could see almost projected onto the inside of my eyelids. I can see the glowing streams of light flowing through the whole structure, right down to the individual buds on each plume that dangle beautifully from the ceiling.
The trunk itself looked like a solid block of energy, not seven separate parts like it was visually. I just knew that had to mean something and I strongly felt in my bones that it was a doorway
somewhere.
It is a feeling I just cant shake.
I get up and place my hand onto the trunk.
“Open?” I say cautiously. I close my eyes and concentrate hard on the trunk, trying to get a sense of…well….anything, really.
“Having a moment with the tree?” I hear Will say behind me.

“It is kind of like my child,” I joke, my eyes still shut. I sigh and step back from the tree.

“Ljust…know it’s a doorway. I can’t explain why. I have no bloody idea how it works, but it is,” I say
hotly, my annoyance at the mystery rather evident in my voice.
Will smiles.
“I believe you, Ella. It’s structure and the way it’s…powered…it’s far from a normal tree, that’s for sure,” Will says, now placing his own hand on the trunk.
“I wish I had light magic,” he mutters quietly.
“You have a lot of other magic, though,” I reply, wondering why he said that. He nods in agreement
but looks wistful for a moment.
“Light magic is just…so pure and unbridled, though. None of this centring yourself, invoking this and that. No herbs, no alignment of the stars and whatnot. It’s always there, it’s all around you and it’s part of you. There isn’t much of it in this world and there should be more, because… Ella I have felt the difference since coming here and being around someone who is full of the stuff… the world needs more of it. More people who have
light inside them. I don’t know…I’m just waffling,” he says
with a vague smile and a sigh.
“I think even though I’ve not had it for long I probably take the ease of it for granted, particularly since I accepted Austin as my mate,” I reply, wrinkling my nose, “but, there are good people all around, Will. I don’t really understand what you mean.”
“Most people are inherently good people. But not many if any are completely selfless. Not many have good souls,” Will counters.
I turn to Will, suddenly remembering something from the other night.
“Can we talk about your enchanted boxers?” I ask, unable to keep a straight face. He snorts with
laughter himself.
“Ha, not something your magic can do; for once, I’m afraid,” he replies, “you’ll just have to put up
with everyone seeing your mate naked.”
“That’s a jolly shame,” I pout.
“Why? Us Lycans have no problem with nudity. But from what I saw last night, he’s got nothing to be ashamed of,” Will shrugs with a laugh. I playfully hit him on his arm.
“Anyway…I actually tracked you down to ask you for some advice…because that roommate of
yours may not dislike me as much as she used to… but she still terrifies me,” Will says awkwardly,
“uhh….I’m taking Annabelle out on a proper date today…now that the mocks are over.”

I shake my head at him.

“You don’t need advice. Just be you. You’re great, and she knows that already. Her parents are stupidly rich so something a bit more down to earth and normal might be a nice surprise for her,” I say warmly.
“Okay. I was thinking of a driving range that’s not too far from here?” he replies. I make a cringe face as I really didn’t think Annabelle would enjoy that; but then I have a brainwave.
“Oh! There is a fairground about a twenty minute drive away, Austin was talking about taking me last night at dinner. I think she’d like that. Lots of different things to do, food and drink, you can sit on a ferris wheel together and make out…”
Will nods immediately.
“That’s perfect. Fairground it is. I’m no good at the driving range anyway,” he laughs, “your face definitely implied she wouldn’t be up for that either.”
I check my watch.
“I’m going back up to the room now anyway. Freya has a little bit of a task later.”
I start to walk to the door with Will.
“Ah yes…you don’t even have to tell me,” Will says knowingly as we step through the doorway together and head towards the door to the hall.
“Wow, you just love to spy on people’s auras huh?” I remark. He chuckles and shakes his head at
“It might seem that way, but with any gift you have to practice it, and if you don’t use it, you could
end up losing it. Think of it like a muscle. It needs to be used to continue to be useful and functional,” he says matter-of-factly. I grab his arm and stop him halfway through the empty sports
hall.
“Fine. If that is true then I’m going to take a good looong look at yours, because you should know how it feels to feel bare to someone like you,” I inform him. I take a step back and focus on Will, but this time I was hoping to do it with my eyes open like he could. My magic was so much stronger lately I hope I can manage it.
“Sure thing faerie girl, let me know what you see,” Will says with clear amusement. I wasn’t too happy at how often he seemed to think I couldn’t do this, so I was desperate to finally prove him wrong. I focus and soon enough, his aura gradually shimmers into view. It is so colourful and complex due to his dual nature, it is really very beautiful. I study it for a short while.
“Wha…hmm….well…” I begin, unsure what I was seeing. He looks satisfied as if his point has been

“See, maybe if you did it more, you’d learn more about them… Eh?” Will jokes as he starts to walk past me. I grab his hand in excitement.
“You’ve found your mate!” I whisper, taking a stab in the dark at what I’d just seen. He stops
immediately, his eyes wide.
“Damn your natural abilities,” he mutters. My heart swells for him; I had wondered about this topic, recently. I look at him in absolute excitement.
“Who is she?” I ask keenly. He looks back at me and looked at me as if I was stupid. I sort of was.
“Ohh! OF COURSE!” I exclaim, realising immediately “does she know?”
We continue walking as Will shakes his head and sighs a little.
“She’s an Omega, Ella. Bonded to someone like me she might feel it a little before eighteen? Otherwise, no, I don’t think she does just yet. I can’t even see it in hers,” he says sadly as we enter
the atrium.
“Well, if you ever needed another solid sign that you were destined to come here, I think you’ve now got it,” I say happily, “You belong here, Will, no matter what led you here to begin with.”
Will looks like he is about to say something, but instead he slowly nods. I know he still struggles with how he came to be here and all I can do is continue to be positive about it instead.
“Well, have an amazing date. I won’t tell anyone anything, I promise. I know you guys have some strange rules about these things,” I say to him before ascending the stairs.
I get back to the room and find Freya still in bed. She is staring at the opposite wall while hugging a
large, stuffed bear.
“Not so easy is it, having to confront someone and have a potentially awkward conversation?” I say a little smugly, enjoying the fact our positions are now reversed.
“What am I going to do? What do I even say? What if he doesn’t want me? I’m too inexperienced!” Freya rattles off in a panic, still staring at the wall and not blinking.
Oh dear.
“I mean you could just reject him, right?” I suggest, hoping this will make her backtrack a little.
“What? No. I can’t,” she says bluntly.
“Oh? What not?” I ask innocently.

“Because I don’t WANT to Els. I’m just so afraid of…all of it,” Freya admits.

“know you are and I more than understand, but…it’s the only way to move forward and it’s part of growing up; having these sorts of situations, conversations…physical interactions….” I offer gently.
She sits up, looking a bit dishevelled and very different to the confident Freya who strode into the room at the beginning of September in her chic satin jumpsuit.
“Have a nice long shower, get dressed… Aus and I can arrange for you and Ollie to happen to bump into each other in the greenhouse after we’ve done his cake thing in the common room.. Then you’re going to Freya the f*ck up – which is now the quintessential she-wolf version of manning up,” I say positively, standing up.
“Why the greenhouse?” Freya sniffs.
“Privacy. Also I’ve worked damn hard on it and it’s beautiful and highly romantic when the fairy lights are all on,” I laugh. She lets out a laugh herself and then exhales slowly, seeming to mentally
dust herself off.
“You’re right Ella. It’s time to Freya up, because I’m Freya bloody Landry and I don’t shy away from a ny male Lycan. I’m an alpha and it’s time I acted like it,” she says, getting out of bed defiantly.
“That’s the spirit!” I cheer.
“But…what if he doesn’t want me? What if it’s just our wolves? What if we can’t get past our sibling-like history?” Freya then says with a pout.
