Patrick's eyelid twitched.
With a slight frown, he asked, “Mom, is all this really necessary?”
Millicent replied with a stern face, “It's necessary!”
She had already made up her mind.
Although Timothy was not her biological grandson and that he had already passed away, Bishop was her own son.
He wasn't even fifty years old yet.
He could still find a younger woman to have children with, and she could still have grandchildren.
Patrick also discerned Millicent's thoughts and couldn't help but chuckled. “Mom, you really have no regard for mother-son affection, do you?”
“What do you mean?” Millicent retorted, “Your family has found a son-in-law like Finnegan. Your future is undoubtedly secure. What's wrong with me taking care of Bishop now? Moreover, considering what has happened to Bishop recently, it's only natural to offer him some comfort!”
Suppressing the frustration within him, Patrick asked, “Is it really necessary to do this?”
Millicent waved her hand. “Go back. I need some time to calm down now.”
It was clearly non-negotiable.
“Jen, Bernie, you two go ahead.”
Bernice's heart tightened. “Dad?”
She feared that Patrick and Millicent would come to blows, tearing away their pretenses and confronting each other head-on.
Patrick managed a smile. “I know my boundaries.”
Bernice nodded slightly, taking Jennifer by the hand as they left the study.
Millicent widened her eyes. “What else do you want to say? My decision is final. Only after I take over the Zimmerman family and the company can Finnegan treat your father.”
“Mom, you should take a look at this first,” he suggested.
Patrick took out the DNA maternity test report of himself and Millicent.
After the elderly woman picked it up for a closer look, her expression suddenly changed.
She lost his composure as she stood up, stammering, “This... this...”
Patrick said, “Originally, I intended to keep this matter a secret for my entire life, especially since I've been calling you 'Mom' for fifty years. But just as you love your own biological son, I also want to provide some security for my wife and daughter. So, the ball is in your court. If you insist on continuing this way, I'll have no choice but to take you to court. Furthermore, I have a video in my possession that reveals Bishop's embezzlement of company assets over the years. As soon as I release it, the board of directors won't let you have your way.”
Millicent slumped down, looking at Patrick, a face both familiar and foreign to her. “Did your father tell you?”
Only she and Bruce were aware that she was not Patrick's mother.
Patrick replied, “It doesn't matter who told me. My stance now is clear. As my father had said before, I will give Bishop thirty percent of the pure profit as an annual dividend, not a penny more. Next, I will have Finnegan treat my father tomorrow. If you try to stop me again, I will accuse you of plotting against my father and trying to monopolize the family wealth.”
Having said that, Patrick decisively turned around and left without uttering another word.
Millicent's body shuddered, her hand loosening its grip, causing the DNA maternity test report to fall to the ground. “How could it have turned out like this?” she asked.
Suddenly, she collapsed onto the table and began to cry.
The grandchild she doted on was not really her grandchild. Furthermore, Patrick, whom she had always suppressed, turned the tables on her.
She felt so desperate she could have died!
“Dad, what did you say to Grandma?”
Upon seeing Patrick emerge, Bernice hurriedly approached him.
Patrick revealed a modest smile, taking Bernice's and Jennifer's hands. “I shared some wisdom with her, hoping it would enlighten her. Also, send a message to Finnegan. Ask him to find time to treat your grandpa.”
After a pause, he added, “If Queenie tries to stop you, just slap her right across the face.”
Bernice exclaimed in surprise, “Dad, why have you changed?”
With a smile, Patrick retorted, “Do you think I'm a bit handsome now?”
Naturally, Finnegan had no idea what Sapphire was planning to do, and he arrived at the floor where Bruce's ward was located.
The bodyguards who were on duty did not obstruct when they saw him, as Bishop had already given them instructions earlier.
However, when Finnegan entered the ward, he saw Queenie rushing toward him like a madman. “B*stard, you killed my brother, and you even caused my parents to divorce.”
Finnegan furrowed his brows, his hand swiftly clutching her throat. “Is there something wrong with your morals?”
“Let me go! Let me go!”
However, Queenie completely disregarded him, struggling while simultaneously batting away Finnegan's hand.
Annoyed, Finnegan slapped her. “Shut up!”
The slap struck Queenie directly, leaving her dazed and in tears. “Finnegan, you b*stard. You took away my innocence. Now you've caused my brother's death, forced my parents to divorce, and now you're hitting me!”
Finnegan's frown deepened. “You can accuse me of causing your brother's death or your parents' divorce, but why should I care about your innocence? When have I ever been involved with you in any significant way?”
“It was the previous time. You had gone in!”
The previous time? Did I go in?
Finnegan furrowed his brow, recalling his visit to the Zimmerman residence. Queenie had indeed been sitting close to him, with no space in between.
It had already entered a bit at that time?
Does that mean I was being taken advantage of?
Just as he was deep in thought, a sudden gust of wind from a palm strike unexpectedly swept toward him.
Finnegan snapped back to reality, gripping Queenie's hand tightly. “Don't lose your mind here with me. I came to save your grandpa. And even if I did go in, it was you who brought it upon yourself.”
He flung her away without a second thought, showing no hint of being gentler with the fairer sex.
He also called out to the Zimmerman family's bodyguards, “I'm going to save your master. Keep an eye on her, and don't disturb me.”
