He answered. “Hey, Jessica.”

Jessica’s anxious voice came through. “Dad, where are you? You need to come back right away! Something happened to Ms. Olsen!”

“What happened to Ida? Hang in there. I’m coming back now.”

He hung up, threw off the covers, and got out of bed to start dressing.

Brittany sat up, having overheard the call. She looked at Horace. “Ida’s in trouble?”
