Jessica turned and saw Wendy and Halsey standing at the door.

She stood up immediately and walked over to Wendy, curling her lips into a sly smile.

“What a surprise to see you here! Today’s supposed to be the day Stanley and you get married, but he’s been with me all along. You must have been waiting at the courthouse the whole day, huh? Honestly, I kind of feel sorry for you.”

Halsey opened her mouth to speak, but Wendy stopped her with a glance. Wendy fixed Jessica with a cold stare. “You’ve been with Stanley the whole day?”

“Yeah,” Jessica said with a casual shrug. “We’ve known each other for years. He’s always had a place for me in his heart. You’re not jealous, are you?”

Now, Wendy understood Brittany’s feelings perfectly. Love and engagement–those were narrow spaces that could only hold two people. Any third party would stand out like a sore thumb, especially when that third party was a sworn enemy.
