Chapter 761
Bella nodded softly. “Then you have to get better really soon, Daddy.”
Jessica’s expression darkened as she looked at Bella. Now that Bella had acknowledged her bond with Stanley, the thought of this little obstacle standing between her and Stanley gave her a headache.
But Jessica figured once she had Stanley firmly in her grasp, she had her own ways to handle this nuisance.
Angela glanced at Jessica. “It’s good you’re here today. There’s something I need to tell you.”
Jessica slipped her arm through Angela’s and said sweetly, “I’m sorry about last time. My mother scolded me when she came back, and I’ve learned my lesson. I promise I won’t do anything that extreme again. Honestly, I did what I did because I love Stanley so much. My mom is close friends with you, and she said marrying me to Stanley would put her mind at ease. Our families would become even closer.”
Jessica was smart–she knew exactly how to play the emotional card, using Angela’s friendship with Brittany to try to shut Angela down.
But Angela stepped back, gently pushing Jessica away. “The engagement between the Hawk and Larson families is off.”
Jessica stiffened. “What…”
Angela’s voice was firm. “You heard it yourself–Bella is the daughter Wendy had with Stanley. Stanley loves Wendy. They’ve already registered their marriage today. In my heart, Wendy is my daughter–in–law.”
She continued, “As for your mother, I’ll speak to her personally. I’m sure Brittany won’t force a loveless marriage.”
Jessica’s anger boiled over, and she could feel her teeth grinding. Angela had completely taken Wendy’s side.
Wendy had won over everyone!
“But Mrs. Angela,” Jessica protested, “Stanley and Wendy didn’t actually register their marriage today!”
What?
Angela paused, surprised, and turned to Stanley. “Didn’t you and Wendy go to the courthouse to register your marriage today?”
Stanley pressed his thin lips together. “I suddenly felt unwell and didn’t make it there.”
Angela frowned. “What a strange coincidence that you got sick just as you and Wendy were about to register your marriage.”
Yes, truly a strange coincidence!
Stanley let out a cold laugh, wondering the same thing himself.
Bella’s small voice piped up. “It’s okay, Daddy. You just need to rest and get better. Then, you can go to the courthouse with Mommy and get married.”
Stanley kissed Bella on the forehead. “You’re such a sweetheart.”
“I’ll stay here and take care of you,” Angela said.
Stanley shook his head. “No need. You should take Bella back home. My secretary is already on the way.”
Angela nodded. “Alright.”
Jessica jumped in eagerly, “Mrs. Angela, I’ll stay here and take care of Stanley!”
“No. You have to leave with me,” Angela insisted, pulling Jessica along.
Jessica froze. “I’m not leaving! Why do you want me to go?”
“If you stay here and Wendy sees you, she’ll definitely misunderstand. I don’t want you to make Wendy unhappy.”
