Jessica stared at Stanley, her voice trembling. “W Why are you with her again?”

Stanley pulled Wendy closer with a smile. “I’ve always been with Wendy. We’re actually planning to get married.”

“But… Didn’t you ask me out to dinner?”

Stanley raised a sharp brow. “Oh, that. I was just saying it offhand even forgot about it myself. You took it seriously? Did you wait at the restaurant all day?”

Jessica’s face drained of color; she hadn’t expected Stanley to say something like that. It was clear that he was toying with her, purposely humiliating her.

A stifled laugh escaped Halsey. She glanced at Jessica and said, “Now you’ve seen it with your own eyes and heard it yourself. Stanley doesn’t have feelings for you. Wendy’s always been the one he loves.”

Jessica looked at Stanley, her voice barely steady. “Is that true?”

Stanley’s head throbbed painfully. His hand tightened quietly on Wendy’s delicate shoulder as he gathered all his strength to fight the sharp pain. He couldn’t let it show on his face, especially not to Jessica.

He kept his expression calm. “Why ask when you already know? You know the one I’ve always loved is Wendy.”

Wendy looked up at Stanley.

Jessica’s limbs went cold; her whole body felt numb. “But… Don’t you feel unwell when you’re with Wendy?”

Stanley’s eyes flashed with a cold sharpness. “What do you

Halsey grinned. “What was that? I didn’t hear you! You must be too hungry from waiting all day at that restaurant to say it properly.” 1
