Haley hopist Shaun hadn’t forgotten ber
shaini looked at her and said simply, “Yes, I remember you.
She let out a relieved breath. “That’s great! Let me properly introduce myself I’m Halsey Mallin
“Hello, Ms. Mallin,” Shaun replied, his voice low and cool, tmreadible.
Halsey couldn’t figure out what he was thinking. She had no che whether he would agree if she asked for a favor.
This man was a mystery. He was a rising star in business, yet he still drove a cab. Why?
Now, all she could do was try. As long as there was even a glimmer of hope, she wouldn’t give up. She couldn’t just stand by and watch Gilbert destroy her family.
“Mr. Lane, the thing is… I have a bit of an awkward request. I want to get in to see Mr. Payne. I heard you’re good friends with him. Could you take me in with you?”
Shaun didn’t say yes or no right away. “Why do you want to see Mr. Payne?”
“To be honest, my family business, Lincoln Enterprise, is in partnership with Mr. Payne’s company. But we’ve hit some trouble, and Mr. Payne wants to cut ties with us. I want to try to convince him otherwise. Can you help me out?”
“Sure,” Shaun simply replied.
Halsey almost jumped for joy. “Thank you! Thank you for helping me get in to see Mr. Payne!”
“But I’m good friends with him, so once we’re inside, I want you to keep quiet,” Shaun added. “I’ll find the right moment to bring this up with him. Can you do that?”
Halsey nodded quickly. “I promise.”
“Come on in.”
Shaun strode inside with purpose, and Halsey followed right behind.
She knew there was always a way out of a tight spot. She felt like Shaun was a godsend in her life. No matter what happened, she was going to treat him to a proper thank–you dinner.
Soon, they reached William. The moment William saw Shaun, his face lit up.
“Shaun, you finally made it!”
He pulled Shaun into a big hug.
Gilbert stood up, eyeing Shaun with curiosity. He didn’t recognize the man at all.
“Mr. Lane, hello,” Gilbert greeted.
William smiled. “Shaun, let me introduce you—this is Gilbert Greenwood from Greenwood Corporation.”
Shaun nodded to Gilbert. “Mr. Greenwood, hello.”
“Mr. Lane, you’re always so low–key and mysterious. This is the first time I’ve met you in person. But why do you wear that mask, anyway?” Gilbert said.
He was genuinely puzzled about Shaun’s mask.
“I don’t like people seeing my face, so I always wear the mask,” Shaun answered calmly.
Everyone had their reasons for doing things.
