Chapter 817
Halsey, Shaun, Gilbert, and William teamed up for a round of golf Halsey paired with Shaun, while Gilbert naturally joined William. The match was set: best two out of three.
Gilbert gripped his golf club confidently. As the heir of a wealthy family, he had played golf since he was young and was known for his skill.
With a smirk aimed at Halsey, Gilbert said, “I’m not going to go easy on you. Just watch how I beat you at golf!”
“Don’t just talk big. We’ll see who wins!” Halsey shot back.
Gilbert’s confidence didn’t waver. “You’re about to find out.”
He took his stance, lined up his shot with a casual ease, then swung smoothly. The golf ball soared and landed perfectly in the hole on the first try.
William applauded. “That was an impressive shot.”
Golf had been Gilbert’s game since childhood, so this was just a steady, practiced performance.
He looked at Halsey with a triumphant grin. “See that? That’s one point for me. Now let’s see what Mr. Lane can do.”
Halsey knew Gilbert was good at golf–no surprises there–but she wasn’t sure about Shaun’s skills.
She glanced nervously at Shaun. “How good are you at golf?”
Shaun’s expression remained calm and unreadable. He looked at her briefly and asked, “Are you nervous?”
“Of course. I’m hoping you’ll win.”

Shaun began to unbutton his black suit jacket. His eyes caught hers, filled with a quiet amusement. “Isn’t Gilbert your fiancé? Have you broken up with him?”
Halsey didn’t hesitate. “I ended things with him a long time ago.”
“I see,” Shaun said softly.
Though it was just a short reply, the smile in his eyes grew a little wider.
Halsey watched as Shaun slowly undid his buttons. His long, strong fingers moved deliberately over the expensive silver buttons, peeling off the black jacket to reveal the crisp white shirt beneath.
She felt a faint pang of familiarity–his hands and the way he undressed reminded her of Dwight.
Shaun’s deep, smooth voice pulled her back. “What are you staring at?”
Embarrassed, Halsey shook her head. “Nothing. Is this button stuck?”
Shaun replied, “Yeah. Maybe you could help me?”
Halsey understood he wanted to be more comfortable to play golf. She was genuinely grateful he w wasn’t going to say no.
“Sure.”
Her slender, pale fingers touched the silver buttons and began to undo them.

Now standing very close, Halsey suddenly realized how intimate it felt helping a man undress. Her small face flushed bright red.
Shaun noticed and smiled. “You’re blushing.”
Halsey wished she could disappear into the ground. “I’m not.”
